Initial epidemiological studies demonstrate that the Omicron variant is more transmissible than the Delta variant. The Omicron variant’s biological characteristics are still relatively unknown. It has more than 32 mutations in the spike protein compared with the first SARS-CoV-2 and was designated as a variant of concern by WHO on November 26, 2021.

Despite the fact that Omicron variant is more transmissible, Malaysia has fewer daily new Covid 19 cases as shown on the chart below. On 6 Dec we had only 3,543 new cases and 7-day average 3,169 cases.

About 80% of all Malaysians are fully vaccinated with 2 doses and about 23% of our population were give the booster shots.

Covid-19: Biggest source of imported cases is Saudi Arabia, says Khairy.

Malaysia has registered 123 new Covid-19 Omicron cases, bringing the cumulative Omicron-variant case count in the country to 245, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

The Health Minister said out of the 245 cumulative Omicron cases, 233 involved imported cases and the remaining 12 were from local infections. Khairy said that the data has shown that the single biggest source of imported cases, Omicron or otherwise, was from Saudi Arabia. “The data is clearly showing us that it is coming from one particular source. If the Health Ministry didn’t act on the data by postponing umrah pilgrimages, we wouldn’t be able to slow down the imminent Omicron wave,” he said.

The number of daily new Covid 19 cases is surging in US and each of the European countries as shown on the charts below.

I must give credit where credit is due. Our Government might have done many things wrong but as far as Covid 19 pandemic is concerned our Government has managed to control the spread of the coronavirus much better than US and all the European Countries. The number of daily new Covid 19 cases is surging in US and each of the European countries as shown on the charts above.

Good news for Investors

The Covid 19 pandemic has been depressing the stock market because MCO lockdown restricted the movement of workers. As a result, all the listed companies have reported reduced profit and almost all investors would have lost money.

Based on the fact that Malaysia has fewer daily new Covid 19 cases and there is no more MCO lockdown, all the listed companies should report increased profit in the next few quarters.
