I was the Malaysia Master Builders Association Secretary General for 9 years. Although I have retired, I am still in touch with the construction developers and contractors. I know Malaysia needs a lot more foreign workers in the construction and many other industries. You can see most of the workers in the construction industry are foreign workers and almost all the workers in the oil palm estates are foreign workers. In fact many constructions have stopped work because contractors could find workers. Under the existing rules, employment of foreign workers is very cumbersome.
Our new Minister of Labour should have an advisory committee to advise him. Committee members should be representatives from the construction industry, planation sector, products manufacturers, finance, small and medium industries etc.
