PETALING JAYA: It world take a minimum of four days for water supply to be restored, once the four water treatment plants, shut down on Thursday (Sept 3) due to odour pollution, resume operations, says Air Selangor chief executive officer Suhaimi Kamaralzaman.

As of 2.30pm on Friday (Sept 4), the odour pollution stands at 1 ton and the water treatment plants remained shut.

Air Selangor is unable to say when the plants will come back on as the water disruption this time looks to become the worst yet for the Klang Valley.

The plants were shut down at around 9am on Thursday after odour pollution was detected at the uptake of the plants.

Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (Luas) issued a statement on the same day, saying that an unidentified solvent likely made the water source in Sungai Selangor odorous.

Subsequently, odour sampling was conducted near the Sungai Gong industrial area, which is believed to be the source of the problem.

On Friday, authorities identified a factory as the culprit behind the pollution, and moved to have it shut down and impounded.

It was reportedly not the first time that the factory had polluted the river and caused water disruption in the Klang Valley.

Sungai Gong is a tributary of Sungai Sembah, which is the main tributary of Sungai Selangor located about 17km from the Rantau Panjang Water Treatement plant.

Causing extreme misery to 2 million people including babies & those who are medically sick is a huge thing, also business disruptions; somemore it could be 4 days without water. The punishment is not enough. Jail sentences at least a year for the owners and compensations of hundreds millions to deter this from happening again. No factories at least 10 kilometers from water source and catchment area.

Seems to me like "OK la folks, just be patient for 4 days". NO, this is not OK. Someone need to resign & the culprits severely punished.

need to gangbang sue the factory responsible for the water pollution. It was repeated culprit. Last time kena saman 60k only.

Like Sivagnagga , all the affected ppl kena lockdown at Kedah jointly sue the Nasi Kandar owner for 1mil

This one, must jointly sue for bigger amount . Business already hard with RMCO, without water , it make things worse.

Something fishy about frequent water supply disruption. Factory polluting rivers is just one of the reason. How does all dams are affected at the same time?

Why need 4 days to restore supply? They don't work on weekend or during major disruption? Seems like tidak apa attitude has become full blown cancer and is disrupting service and utilities industry. Everything sucks big time from government to private. They are only interested in sending monthly BILLS. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS DEAD!
