Three-year-old an index case of KL Covid-19 cluster

PETALING JAYA: A three-year-old child has been identified as an index case of a Covid-19 cluster involving an educational centre in Taman Setapak Indah, Kuala Lumpur, says the Health Ministry.

The girl tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday (Oct 23), after she began developing symptoms on Oct 20.

A total of 46 individuals linked to the cluster have been screened and so far, seven confirmed cases have been detected.

The cluster was one of nine new clusters reported in the ministry’s daily Covid-19 updates on Wednesday (Oct 27).

Six of the new clusters are workplace outbreaks, including a factory cluster in Bangi, Selangor which has 80 confirmed cases.

There is also one cluster comprising patients and employees of a medical centre in Tanjung Rambutan, Perak.

The cluster has 24 confirmed cases so far.

There is also a community outbreak in Bachok, Kelantan with 12 confirmed cases.

Currently, there are 494 active Covid-19 clusters nationwide.

On Wednesday, Malaysia reported 6,148 new cases and 7,595 recoveries.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the new cases, 98.4% or 6,047 are mild and asymptomatic infections.

“Another 101 cases or 1.6% are those in Category Three, Four and Five,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

There were 21 imported cases involving 13 Malaysians and eight foreigners.

Cumulatively, Malaysia has recorded a total of 2,448,372 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began.

Total Covid-19 recoveries are now 2,347,985, which is a 95.9% recovery rate.

There are 563 patients in intensive care units, 495 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 cases and 68 suspected.

There are 292 people on ventilator support.
