BANGI: The living allowances for students sponsored by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will be increased effective September 2022, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Prime Minister said the living allowance for Mara-sponsored students locally would be increased from RM650 to RM950 per month at the diploma, doctorate and professional levels.

He also said that for Mara-sponsored students abroad, it would be increased between RM1,380 and RM7,600 per month at the bachelor's degree, doctorate and professional levels.

"The increment in living allowance reflects the concerns of the government and Mara over the Bumiputera empowerment agenda," Ismail Sabri said on Saturday (Sept 10) at an event at the Feisol Hassan-Halle German Malaysian Institute (GMI) in Bangi.

He added that the increase in living allowance would benefit 62,998 Mara-sponsored students studying locally and abroad.

Ismail Sabri added that some 1.35 million Malay and Bumiputera students have benefited from Mara sponsorships so far.
