JOHOR BARU: Ahead of the looming 15th General Election, the fledgling Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has declared that it is not willing to give up the Muar parliamentary seat currently held by its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said the party was focused on ensuring victory for Syed Saddiq, who won the Muar seat when he contested under a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia ticket during the last election in 2018.

“Our focus is not about getting the number of seats to contest, as Muda is not only realistic, but we are also pragmatic. We will handle the seat allocation issue during our negotiations with Pakatan Harapan.“But our intention is to defend Muar as the seat belongs to our president, while the other seats we are targeting belong to Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional,” she said, after having her statement recorded by the police here yesterday over her alleged involvement in a public assembly in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month.

The Puteri Wangsa assemblyman said the issue would be among the topics discussed during Muda’s central executive committee meeting, which will be held soon.

She also said the meeting would discuss Muda’s cooperation with Pakatan and how to ensure there would not be any clashes during GE15.

“The meeting is held in case our application to join Pakatan is rejected. If we cannot join them, then we should continue to discuss with Pakatan to ensure there will be no clashes in seats during the national election.

“At the present moment, there is no plan for us to head solo or cooperate with any political party,” she added.
