KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has accused the government of using the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) to 'kill' the credibility of Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Bersatu secretary general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the party is disappointed with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) - Barisan Nasional (BN) government's move to use a government agency to achieve its political aim of killing the credibility of Bersatu and PN.

"We are confident that the people will be aware of the despicable strategy used by PH-BN who wants to divert the people's attention from the government's weakness, failure and nepotism practices," said Hamzah in a statement.

He said Bersatu is always firm on the principle of integrity and good governance.

"All Bersatu members and leaders at all levels are urged to be patient and steadfast in facing this test and slander," said Hamzah.

Meanwhile, Hamzah said the party will continue to cooperate in the investigation so that the malicious slander against Bersatu will be stopped.

"We accept that the move by MACC is part of their investigation process of the slander that was made against Bersatu. All party leaders and officials who have been asked to give their statements have been instructed to give their full cooperations," said Hamzah.

Earlier, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the graft-busters have frozen Bersatu's accounts.

He said the accounts were frozen to enable the MACC to investigate funds believed to have been obtained from illegal proceeds.

The investigations were under the MACC Act 2009 and Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
