KUALA LUMPUR: MyEG Services Bhd, which has been facing brickbats for disruptions in its online immigration services, today announced that it will only resume offering immigration related services after a system enhancement is done.

The system enhancement is required under a deal with the Home Affairs Ministry to continue to provide immigration related services for another two years.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd, MyEG said it received a letter of acceptance dated October 16, 2023 from the Home Affairs Ministry to extend the immigration related services for a period of two years, today.

According to MyEG, as a requirement for the two-year extension, MyEG will have to complete a system enhancement before it starts offering the services again.

MyEG is yet to start the system enhancement process and will make an announcement about it, once it starts.

An agreement to formalise the extension of its services will also be signed at a later date.

The estimated total value of the extension will be dependent on the number of transactions performed over this period.

More than a month ago, MyEG claimed that it had not misrepresented services available on its online platform when Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong accused the company of illegally collecting fees for its foreign worker permit renewal services, despite a suspension by the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

"All services continue to be provided in accordance with the terms and conditions stipulated by the government," MyEG said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia on September 13, 2023.

According to a filing with the bourse in July, MyEG said the Ministry of Home Affairs had notified it vide a letter dated July 7, 2023 that the Ministry of Finance has approved for MyEG to be appointed as the collection agent for the government revenue and to extend its role as the provider of online services for the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

MyEG's immigration services concession was scheduled to end on May 22, this year.

MyEG's share price was up 0.6 per cent to close at 82 sen today.
