OPPOSITION-slant NGO Pertubuhan Pembela Tanah Air (PETA) is seemingly adamant that Nurul Izzah Anwar is not providing a pro bono service in her role as the co-head of the secretariat supporting the operations of the Advisory Committee to the Finance Minister who happens to be her father Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Towards this end, PETA has submitted a memorandum to Anwar who is also the Prime Minister (PM) regarding government executive agency the National Economic Action Council (LAKSANA) that is said to have paid a monthly allowance of RM35,000 to Nurul Izzah.

This is despite the Finance Ministry (MOF) having denied as “complete slander” accusations of the former Permatang Pauh MP getting paid for her advisory role.

The allegations which originated from a Facebook post has claimed that Nurul Izzah would be drawing a monthly salary of RM35,000 and had two staffers who were paid between RM5,000 and RM20,000.

Nurul Izzah who is also the PKR vice-president had previously said her lawyers would lodge a police report on the matter after the Chinese New Year celebration while the two said staffers - activist-cum-policy consultant Liyana Marzuki and PKR Youth committee member Nadia Fathin Syahira Ahmad Nazri - had already lodged their respective reports.

For the record, both reports are believed to be directed at Bersatu’s national information committee member Badrul Hisham Shahari a.k.a. Che’gubard who has been actively fanning the issue on social media.

Back to the PETA memorandum, the NGO’s secretariat member Zool Amali Hussin a.k.a. Bozz Jebat wanted Anwar to personally look into claims of LAKSANA paying her daughter an allowance of RM35,000 “for three days of work and free to work from any remote locations”.

According to Zool Amali, Anwar himself had on Jan 29 last year rebutted all criticism by stating that Nurul Izzah would serve without any form of allowance from the government after questions were raised about her qualifications in addition to accusations of cronyism and nepotism in her appointment.

“As such, PETA would like to ask for an explanation if there is any truth in the document that has also gone viral for if it’s true, this is very disappointing because YAB Datuk Seri has deliberately lied to the people time and again”. - Feb 15, 2024
