KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says he will hit the ground to campaign in the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

The former Umno vice-president said he, however, would wait for the details from the party headquarters.

“We will wait for the orders on which divisions to take charge of which areas.

“So, we shall wait for the schedule from the headquarters,” he told reporters at the Defence Ministry’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at Dewan Seroja at Kem Kementah here yesterday.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat in Selangor fell vacant following the demise of DAP assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on March 21.

Lee, 58, who had held the seat since 2013, had battled cancer for several years.

The Election Commission has fixed nomination day on April 27 and polling on May 11.

Separately, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil believes the unity government candidate has the potential to secure a big majority in the by-election.

“The projection is based on the strong cooperation within the unity government and the dedicated service demonstrated by the late Lee Kee Hiong, the former assemblyman, whose contributions were felt by the residents in the constituency,” he said at Wisma Bernama yesterday.
