SHAH ALAM: History has shown that the Malaysia-China bilateral ties have been mutually beneficial, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said that this was despite doubts expressed by other nations' leaders that the close relationship would be disadvantageous to Malaysia as the smaller country.

"In fact, there is historical precedence, dating back to the emperors of China and the sultans of Malacca, that relationship the relationship between our two nations can be mutually beneficial," he said on Facebook on Saturday ( June 22).

Anwar recently welcomed his Chinese counterpart, Li Qiang, for an official visit on Wednesday (June 22).

The two leaders discussed issues pertinent to both nations and shared insights on broader regional and global matters of common concern.

The Prime Minister added that his dialogue with Li showcased the amicable and respectful nature of Chinese leadership towards Malaysia.

"Throughout our discussions, there was no hint of arrogance or condescension. We tackled contentious issues as equal partners and trusted friends.

"I take this opportunity to reassure others, especially fellow Malaysians, that our relationship with China reflects genuine respect and friendship," he said.

Anwar firmly reiterated that both he and Li were dedicated to nurturing and solidifying the relationship between Malaysia and China.
