KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has expressed its preparedness to cooperate with Indonesia in peacekeeping assignment if given a mandate by the United Nations, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the matter was discussed with Indonesian president-elect Prabowo Subianto during a three-minute phone conversation on Monday (July 1).

"In the three-minute phone conversation, we exchanged views on current issues, including Prabowo’s role in representing Indonesia on the international stage recently and his efforts in promoting regional and global vision, collaboration, and peace.

"I also welcomed the idea of cooperation in a Malaysia-Indonesia international peacekeeping mission including the Palestine mission and the possibility of expanding this collaboration to the Asean regional level," he said in a Facebook posting.

At the same time, Anwar also expressed gratitude and wished Prabowo a speedy recovery following his successful recent surgery last week.

"I also pray that Prabowo receives good care and treatment throughout his recovery period and that he is granted a swift recovery to promptly resume his entrusted responsibilities,” he said.

Prabowo, who is the President-elect for the 2024-2029 term, underwent surgery to recover from injuries sustained during his military service.

Meanwhile, the prime minister also expressed hope that the Indonesian elections, which will culminate with the Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) on Nov 27, will proceed smoothly.

"May all preparations for the inauguration of Prabowo as president on Oct 20 also go smoothly," added Anwar.
