NIBONG TEBAL (July 4): With two days remaining before polling for the Sungai Bakap state by-election on Saturday, the campaign of Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin has reached 90% of the voters in the area.

Joohari, who is more affectionately known as Cikgu Joo, is confident of covering the remaining 10% before polling day through face-to-face campaigning while also intensifying his campaign on TikTok, which has achieved a broader reach to the target groups.

"The campaign now (focuses) on house-to-house visits to engage with voters along with our team, which has already reached around 85 to 90%. The rest are through social media, which has spread widely.

"We will continue to ensure that our information, especially through social media, reaches the target voters," he said when met by Bernama after attending a Unity Ceramah at Taman Halaman Indah here on Wednesday night.

The former teacher hopes that the target of 80% voter turnout among the 39,279 registered voters in Sungai Bakap can be achieved this Saturday to secure a comfortable victory for the Unity Government.

"If (voter turnout) reaches 80%, it is very good. Because if it's less than that, well...we can already tell who will win, but it only represents a small portion of the actual voter sentiment.

"So, I hope if possible, voters will come out in large numbers. The more people who vote, the healthier and clearer the competition will be," he said.

Joohari noted that young voters in Sungai Bakap have become increasingly positive towards PH, and he hoped to see a full shift towards the coalition.

The by-election is a straight fight between Joohari and Nibong Tebal PAS vice-chief Abidin Ismail.

The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff of PAS on May 24 due to stomach inflammation.
