PRO-Pakatan Harapan (PH) keyboard warriors have poked fun at Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for hiring distinguished King’s Counsel (KC) from the UK Steven Perian to lead his defence team during next week’s Court of Review hearing over four charges of abuse of power.

This is because PAS which is the key component party in the opposition coalition boasts many supposedly capable lawyers.

Henceforth, tongues are set wagging if the Bersatu president has no faith in local lawyers or is still endowed in the so-called “imperialist mentality” to where does the money come from to engage such a reputable foreign legal counsel.

This led to ‘distinguished’ local candidates in the likes of PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan who happened to be the de facto law minister during Muhyiddin’s reign as Malaysia’s eighth premier.

Or even the so-called opposition-slant, legally knowledgeable social media influencer Solisidtor (@Solisidtor) in line with the concept of “buy local” than to seek help from potentially pro-Zionist elements.

Interestingly, however, a commentator pointed out that “such arguments may be flawed because PMX (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), too, had previously engaged a QC (Queen’s counsel) himself”.

Elsewhere, many netizens continued to wonder where did the Pagoh MP find so much money to engage a famed legal counsel to defend him.

This led to the accusation of the opposition faction practising double standards or being biased in the sense that it would have harshly condemned its opponent of indulging in haram practices supposedly they, too, do likewise by engaging a “potentially pro-Israel lawyer”.

Last but not least, a netizen wondered if the entire episode might explain Muhyidin’s ‘eagerness’ to obtain a temporary release of his passport from the criminal court recently which was purportedly to attend the graduation of his granddaughter in the UK.
