NEW Bersatu member and former UMNO leader Tan Sri Noh Omar accused UMNO of feigning concern over jailed former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s house arrest issue, saying the latter’s party is making a ‘wayang’ of the matter.

His tussle is with UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi and the party’s perceived failure to push harder for Najib’s house arrest bid.

“Where is the movement that is supposed to collect signatures in support of Najib’s house arrest and hand them to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong? Have you forgotten, Puad?

“The supreme council also decided that the UMNO leadership should seek an audience with the king for Bossku’s release (to house arrest),” Noh penned on Facebook.

Noh joined Bersatu out of frustration with UMNO’s treatment of Najib and criticised the party’s alliance with DAP.

Sacked from UMNO in January 2023, he chose Bersatu for its commitment to the Malays, similar to UMNO’s original mission.

Moreover, the former Tanjong Karang MP also asked Puad if he ever told the supreme council that UMNO should instead seek a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Pardons Board over the addendum order’s existence.

“The supreme council’s decisions are a ‘wayang’ (for show),” Puad said.

Last week, the court dismissed a bid by former premier to serve his remaining prison sentence for corruption under house arrest.

The decision came in response to a judicial review application filed by Najib on April 1 that said he had clear information that then-King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah issued an “addendum order” allowing him to finish his sentence under house arrest.

In a copy of the judgement released to media on Wednesday (July 3), the Kuala Lumpur High Court found there was no arguable case warranting a full hearing of Najib’s application.

Judge Amarjeet Singh described affidavits filed by Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and another high-ranking politician from Najib’s party, saying they had seen a copy of the royal order as hearsay, and said the government had no legal duty to respond to the application.

Najib took to Facebook to express sadness at the High Court’s dismissal of his application for a judicial review on a purported addendum allowing him to serve his jail sentence under house arrest.

“Sad news this morning. The High Court judge said he found no evidence that the King’s addendum order exists because the affidavits by Deputy Prime Minister and Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Prime Minister’s speech were merely hearsay,” he wrote. - July 6, 2024
