SIBU: Sarawak, with its rich cultural heritage and rapidly growing technological scene, has great potential to become a world hub for game development innovation, said Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Anak Kumbong.

He said Sarawak has the chance to mix traditional wisdom with modern innovation in creating games that appeal to the world while staying true to the state’s roots.

“This is not just a goal; it is a promise to take the gaming industry to new heights,” Ugak said at the opening ceremony of the two-day International Game Development Conference 2024 at University of Technology Sarawak here yesterday.

In line with this, the deputy minister said that the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, a lead agency under the purview of the Digital Ministry, will support the gaming industry by providing various programmes and grants designed to nurture talent, promoting local game developers and attracting international gaming companies to Malaysia.
