PETALING JAYA: According to reports, Selangor Bersatu chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has declined the offer to be appointed party secretary-general.

Azmi, who is also the Hulu Kelang assemblyman, has reportedly conveyed the matter to the Bersatu division heads in Selangor.

The Star is contacting Azmin for confirmation.

On Saturday (July 13), Bersatu proposed its line-up of the top five leaders ahead of its election in October, with Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin “bumped up” as the party’s deputy president.

The party also proposed Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee and Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin as Bersatu’s vice presidents and Datuk Seri Mohamad Azmin Ali as secretary-general.

Hamzah is the current Bersatu secretary-general; Ahmad Faizal is the deputy president; Kiandee and Radzi are vice presidents; and Azmin has been appointed supreme council member.

However, party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that although the suggested lineup for the five top posts has been made, this should not deter members from challenging the top leadership positions in the election.
