KUALA LUMPUR: More than two million foreign workers are in Malaysia as of May 31 this year, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

The Human Resources Ministry said the 2,307,746 foreign workers are from the industrial, construction, service, plantation, agriculture, domestic work and mining and quarrying sectors.

The industrial sector recorded the highest number of foreign workers at 730,999 followed by construction (646,508), service (394,739), plantation (263,151), agriculture (171,103), domestic work (100,675) and mining and quarrying (571).

Some 19,934 companies have also registered under the Immigration Department’s Expatriate Services Division as of July 11.

“Manufacturing had the highest number of applications at 27,012 followed by construction (8,981), business services (8,590), education (7,142) and the oil, gas and energy sector (5,424),” it said in a written reply on Wednesday (July 17).

The ministry was responding to a question by Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (PH-Beruas) who asked about the current intake of foreign workers in the labour and professional sectors.

This is bullshit at best.
Some companies workforce are 85-90% foreign workers.
It is not limited to construction and manufacturing only but creeped into offices, malls, security. This shows Malaysians are sidelined for cheaper and slave workers who would accept measly salary to enrich greedy businesses.

If you need or have a maid, did you get an Indonesian maid ( or Filipino) because they are cheaper or you can't find local maids? Dont forget the huge lump sum you have to fork out too. Many locals' productivity are low as we have many subsidies and free distribution from Govt, there is not much competition. Even trying to get NM into UiTM became big issue but don't they know that then businesses do not think highly of those from that Uni bcos of not much competition to excel? The Govt should start by cutting down its workforce and no more breaks, just lunch and works 8am to 5pm weekdays .Those who can cope get higher pay , those who cannot should be let go like in private sector. Its the same down south, Singaporeans said Malaysians from JB are paid lowly and take away jobs from them but the Malaysians are happy with the "low" pay, so we cannot blamed the foreigners in Malaysia or their employers.
