PETALING JAYA: Federal Territory Bersatu leadership expresses its full support for party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s “succession plan”, saying it will help the party remain organised and dynamic.

The chapter’s deputy chief Mohd Badrul Ezan Yusof said that Muhyiddin’s proposal adhered to the foundational ideals set by the president while allowing the party to adapt to the current political dynamics.

“This approach will help the party remain organised, dynamic, strong, and preferred by the people in facing the current political challenges under the banner of Perikatan Nasional.

“Therefore, in the meeting of the Federal Territories State Leadership Body on July 18, 2024, all meeting members expressed full support for the proposal by Tan Sri president,” he said in a statement on Friday (July 19).

Badrul also said that the chapter was calling on Bersatu members to continue standing united with the party and its alliance for the overall well-being of the people.

Last Saturday (July 13), Muhyiddin said that he held discussions and negotiated with party members to avoid any clashes in the lead-up to the October party election to preserve party unity.

He said the idea for negotiations came up during the party retreat last month and among the motions that were proposed to him was to hold a meeting with the top leadership and discuss ways to avoid discord within the party.

Previously, it was also reported that Muhyiddin’s proposal was well received by Pahang Bersatu.

Pahang Bersatu chief Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said the party will make way for Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin to assume the post as deputy president and the vice-president posts for Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee and Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin while Datuk Seri Azmin Ali will be offered the post of party secretary-general.

Azmin, who is Selangor Bersatu chief, has however played down a news report that he purportedly declined an offer to be appointed party secretary-general.

He also did not deny if it was true that he turned down the offer to be made party secretary-general.

Saifuddin said the Bersatu supreme council had entrusted Muhyiddin with the negotiations of the party's main posts and to ensure suitable individuals are selected.

He said this was to ensure no leader was left out and also to avoid a clash among members which could split up the unity of the party.
