KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia continuously assesses the impact of external factors on the economy, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the government is mindful of geopolitical risks and other international factors impacting the Malaysian economy and will assess the situation from time to time.

"Now we are on track to achieve economic growth," he told reporters on the sidelines of the Malaysia Commercialisation Year 2024 Summit here on Monday (Aug 12).

Anwar was responding to a question about whether external factors, including the recent Japanese 7.1 magnitude earthquake and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, could impact the Malaysian economy.

In May, the Finance Ministry said the government is optimistic that Malaysia’s gross domestic product is well placed to expand within the official forecast range of 4.0% to 5.0% in 2024, driven by higher-than-expected growth in the first quarter of 2024 at 4.2%. – Bernama
