JOHOR BARU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called upon the public to assess the quality of the civil servants' service from Monday (Aug 19).

Civil servants have pledged to improve their performance following the pay increase, known as the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA).

He urged the public to identify any shortcomings or negligence that should be promptly reported.

"Yesterday, I announced the government's recognition of civil servants by raising their salaries.

"They have committed to enhancing service standards, ensuring punctuality and higher efficiency in every office beginning Monday.

"I encourage the public to observe this closely, whether at district offices, state departments, or federal agencies.

"Report any lapses immediately. If there's negligence, the Public Service Department must act swiftly to protect the reputation of the civil service," he said at the Madani Rakyat Southern Zone 2024 programme closing ceremony held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), here, today.

Anwar also said if services provided by any government agencies were below par, the rakyat is entitled to evaluate it.

"Whether it's at the Road Transport Department, Immigration, Customs, or Land Offices, people should evaluate the service they receive.

If it remains the same as before, people will question why salaries have been raised but service quality hasn't improved," he said.

This comes after the recent introduction of the SSPA replacing the previous Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM) that had been in place for 12 years.

Starting Dec 1, about 1.6 million civil servants will benefit from a salary adjustment, the first review since 2013.
