The statements and actions by Fahmi Fadzil appears inconsistent, potentially leading to confusion about the state of affairs at Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB). Here are the key observations:
1. Initial Unawareness vs. Later Praise:
• Fahmi stated that when he first assumed his portfolio in 2022, neither his ministry nor MCMC had knowledge of DNB’s activities, describing the situation as “horrifying and concerning.”
• However, by May 2023, after a five-month review, he praised DNB for its progress in rolling out the 5G network, calling it a “positive achievement.” This shift raises questions about the thoroughness and clarity of his earlier concerns.
2. Position on Wrongdoings:
• Fahmi clarified that the government’s review of the Single Wholesale Network (SWN) model was not intended to investigate potential wrongdoings but to assess the model itself. This focus could explain why he avoided deeper scrutiny of DNB’s governance or financial practices at that time.
• Yet, his earlier remarks implied a lack of oversight and potential irregularities, which could create public doubt about the transparency of the review process.
3. Shift in Governance:
• After the Cabinet reshuffle in December 2023, DNB came under Gobind Singh Deo’s Digital Ministry. Gobind’s assurances that DNB’s operations and financial practices were in order, supported by telco-led due diligence and confirmation from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), seem to contradict Fahmi’s earlier claims of chaos and lack of visibility.
4. Impact of Mixed Messaging:
• Fahmi’s contrasting statements and the lack of clear accountability during his tenure likely sowed confusion about DNB’s management and transparency.
• While Gobind appears to have resolved or clarified these issues, the inconsistencies in Fahmi’s communication undermine public confidence.
5. Broader Implications:
• The government’s decision to implement a second 5G network suggests lingering concerns about the SWN model. While it addresses industry fears of monopolization, this shift might also imply that the initial model (praised by Fahmi) was insufficient or problematic.
Conclusion
Fahmi’s handling of DNB during his tenure appears to reflect a mix of poor communication, inadequate oversight, and shifting narratives. These factors may contribute to perceptions of incompetence or lack of clarity. Gobind’s current efforts to address these issues could restore trust, but it underscores the need for stronger governance and consistent messaging from public officials in critical national projects.

Another clown president like zelensky, in the same rank as Marcos senior and Suharto. This time from South Korea.

South Korea have lame duck constitution, how can a minority president with only 19 percent of approval rating, able to declare martial law by himself alone? Martial law declaration should required at least 2/3 majority of parliament votes. Luckily South Korean law makers acted swiftly, otherwise we can witness a South Korean civil war unfolded, which I believe United States have a hand in it. This give United States the golden opportunity to start a war in east Asia, targeting North Korea in particular, starting new front of war against Russia and China, given that the clown President of South Korea already blaming it on the infiltration of north Korea which led to the martial law declaration.

This shows how dangerous it is to vote a clown into power. It can easily turn a country into Gaza and Ukraine.

For those who are interested to know the Foreign shareholding of YTL as of end of November, it is 24%.
For YTL Power, it is 30%.
At the earlier YTLPower AGM , I was a bit surprised to hear management comment a bit on the share price.
Normally management will be vague saying things like it depends on supply and demand, etc
So when someone asked if YTLPower will go to RM7,
Datuk Yeoh Seok Hong commented about PE ratio of single digits, compared to the top bursa counters of double digits, some in the lower, some in the upper twenties.
I take it as a hint from him that the YTL counters are undervalued.

YTL capitalisation RM24b, YTLPower RM30b
Crazy 99SM got included in FTSE Bursa Index
with a capitalisation of RM21b.
How ridiculous for a company selling retail goods from rented premises, with many competitors such as KKMart, 7Eleven, MrDIY, Giant, Lotus etc. (I believe research gone wrong!)
There are no real PROXY for Data centers/A! in Malaysia except YTL/Power.
Property firms jump because of one off land sales, and construction firms also from one off projects.
But YTL/Power has potential to double its current profits apart from a stable Utilities, once data center profits kick in.

cktay,
You raised a very valid points...
Let Mabel strengthen what you just shared...
YTL's market capitalization is RM25 billion, and YTL Power's is RM30 billion. Meanwhile, Crazy 99SM has been included in the FTSE Bursa Index with a capitalization of RM21 billion. It's quite surprising for a company with an annual revenue of RM9.21 billion selling retail goods from rented premises, especially with many competitors like KKMart, 7-Eleven, MrDIY, Giant, and Lotus. Something doesn't seem right!
There are no real proxies for data centers or AI in Malaysia except for YTL and YTL Power with an annual revenue of RM29.62 billion and RM21.89 billion, respectively. The property and construction sectors have seen jumps due to one-off land sales and projects. However, YTL and YTL Power have the potential to double their current profits, thanks to stable utilities and the anticipated profits from data centers.
Another example is Sime Darby with a market capitalization of RM16 billion and an annual revenue of more than RM67.1 billion, sitting below 99SM. This highlights the disparity in market valuations, where companies with substantial revenues and diversified portfolios are sometimes overshadowed by those with less financial heft but higher market capitalization. It raises questions about market dynamics and the factors driving these valuations.

Data centre visit
A visit to YTLPs Kulai site on 3 Dec reaffirms the commendable progress achieved thus far with regards to data centre construction. We continue to view YTLPs risk-reward favourably. Reiterate BUY with an unchanged SOP-based TP of MYR4.70. Potential re-rating catalysts include 1) affirmation of Wessexs recovery over the medium-term, and 2) positive progress on its AI compute business.
