REMBAU: The Plantations and Commodities Ministry is committed to ensuring all industry players, including oil palm smallholders, obtain Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification.

'Buletin TV3' reported that Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said training and guidance would be provided to ensure Malaysia's palm oil met global standards, particularly the European market.

"So if people want to buy from foreign countries and want to import palm oil, they will choose Malaysia.

"We are not the only ones to produce (palm oil). Indonesia and Thailand also produce it," he was quoted as saying on 'Buletin TV3'.

He said the MSPO certification would benefit Malaysia.

He said this after the closing of the Malaysia Madani leadership training programme for youth leaders in Titiwangsa today.

Johari said the certification was a crucial step to ensure Malaysia's palm oil was sustainable.

He said the MSPO would enhance Malaysia's reputation in the global market and contribute to environmental protection and biodiversity.

He said initiatives like this would position Malaysia as a key player in the palm oil industry.

Previously, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board said it wanted 90 per cent of independent smallholders to have MSPO certification by the end of next year.
