THE Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the handling of sovereignty issues surrounding Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks and South Ledge will be tabled during the ongoing parliamentary session, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) said the RCI report, completed on July 31, was presented to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on Aug 12 and submitted to the Cabinet on Aug 28.
“The Cabinet has agreed for the report to be tabled and debated in Parliament,” she said in a parliamentary reply to a question by Muhammad Islahuddin Abas (PN-Mersing), who asked for detailed findings of the RCI investigation into the sovereignty case.
The inquiry was convened to examine the handling of Malaysia’s sovereignty over Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks and South Ledge – territories located in the eastern entrance of the Straits of Singapore.
The dispute, involving Malaysia and Singapore, has been a longstanding issue with significant implications for national sovereignty and maritime boundaries.
The RCI was tasked with investigating the management and decision-making processes surrounding the Batu Puteh case, including Malaysia’s decision to withdraw its review application at the International Court of Justice in 2018.
