KUALA LUMPUR: The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) and Nasa held a meeting to discuss the importance of forging partnerships to accelerate the growth of Malaysia's space technology sector.
In a statement, Mosti said the strategic alignment is integral to the National Space Policy Action Plan 2030, which seeks to elevate scientific research and development to position in the competitive global space economy.
"The meeting highlighted the significance of fostering international partnerships, particularly in the fields of science, technology, innovation, and economic development, with the aim of positioning Malaysia as a leader in the global space arena.
"Furthermore, it directly supports Thrust 6: Global Prominence of the National Policy on Science, Technology, and Innovation (NPSTI) 2021–2030, which aims to strengthen both domestic and international collaborations in these critical areas," it said.
The representatives from Nasa were chief scientist Dr Katherine Calvin and senior climate advisor to Nasa administrator Bill Nelson.
On Mosti's side were secretary-general Datuk Ts Dr Hj Aminuddin Hassim, deputy secretary-general (Technology Development) Datuk Ts Dr Mohd Nor Azman bin Hassan, director of the Malaysian Space Agency Datuk Gs Azlikamil Napiah, and others.
