GE13: Don’t be fooled by Anwar, says Muhyiddin

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim dreams of becoming the prime minister but lacks a concrete plan to lead the nation, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He cautioned the people, especially voters in Permatang Pauh where Anwar is the incumbent MP, to make a wise decision when they go to the polls.

“Do not be fooled by Anwar and Pakatan Rakyat's manifesto, which stands to bankrupt the nation with promises that cannot be achieved,” he said when opening the Seberang Jaya Community College in Permatang Pauh here yesterday.

He said DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang claimed that he (Muhyiddin) was trying to scare the nation by running down Pakatan's manifesto.

“But, I must say this, Pakatan's manifesto is an outright lie that misleads the people. I do not want Malaysians to fall into a trap and it is my responsibility to explain this to the people.”

Muhyiddin said many of Pakatan's promises in its manifesto were confusing and the party had failed to explain them properly.

“Anwar says he will bring down petrol prices the day after Pakatan supposedly takes over Putrajaya but he did not say by how much.

“At the moment, the government spends about RM24bil in petrol subsidies every year but if petrol prices are brought down further, the government will have to bear higher costs that could even touch RM100bil a year,” he said.

Muhyiddin also said Anwar had pledged to abolish the PTPTN (National Higher Education Fund Corporation) and toll charges on the North-South Expressway but failed to explain where the money would come from.

At another function, he said the Federal Government would spend RM48.8bil to manage and develop school infrastructure nationwide this year.

“This will ensure a better future for our children,” he told reporters after opening SMK Desa Murni in Sungai Dua.

If the market is to prop, it has to be this week best, and next week up to middle of the week for Najib to push the sentiment his way. He would want all machinery to be positive ahead of the election day, however the player of the market esp foreign Buyin would take the less risk and to pull out ahead.

TAWAU: The squabbles for seats in Pakatan Rakyat, the national opposition coalition, is now threatening to turn cannibalistic in Sabah with DAP warily eyeing PAS intentions in the east coast of the state.

With little to gain and everything to lose, the Pakatan parties are facing off over who gets to place their candidate in the Muslim majority Merotai constituency land held by the BN’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

PAS hit a ‘sour’ note when its president Abdul Hadi Awang included the constituency in its corner while Sabah DAP claims the seat is still under negotiations between the coalition partners.

Hadi announced at a function held at PAS Kalabakan office at Taman Semarak that the Islamic party would put up contestants in two parliamentary seats and nine state seats in Sabah.

The parliamentary seats are Batu Sapi and Kalabakan, while the state seats are Pitas, Tempasuk, Tanjung Aru, Sukau, Kunak, Bugaya, Tanjung Batu, Sebatik and Merotai.

Merotai is considered a ‘hot seat’ as both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat component parties are eyeing the seat considered a toss-up with the voters divided and moods likely to swing at the 11th hour.

Sabah DAP chairman Jimmy Wong, who was present when the PAS candidates were announced, said he was caught by surprise that Merotai was mentioned.

“The seat negotiations among Pakatan Rakyat has yet to be finalised and the Merotai state seat has already been conceded to DAP if LDP is defending the seat on behalf of BN,” he said.

Wong said this was a good strategic arrangement to consolidate all coalition members in order to deliver Kalabakan parliamentary constituency for the sake of taking over Putrajaya.

“I am a member of seat negotiations on Sabah matters and the decision of Merotai given to DAP had been minuted. Each party should not announce their own candidates in any constituencies unilaterally,” he said.

Due to the awkward position on the Merotai seat, he urged the Pakatan presidential council to oversee the Sabah seat negotiations and ensure component parties ensure any decision made is not altered.
