This article suggests AA is being bullied in India by powerful local business and nationalist interests that are afraid of competition from AA (coz they know AA will kick their asses!). Rather than compete head-on and fairly in the market, it seems they prefer to create legal problems for AA. I mean unless there is clear evidence of bribes being paid, what's wrong with lobbying to change a restrictive law? Lobbying in and of itself is not wrong and is in fact a widespread business practice the world over. So don't be so quick to judge Tony. As fellow Malaysians we should be proud of his achievements and support him and AA when they are attacked unfairly like this. Or at the very least, just keep quiet.

The Economic Times of India seem particularly out to get AA. So many articles devoted to the AA case. Surely there are more stories in India to write about.

It is obviously a concerted effort by business rivals in India to torpedo AA's plans there. Hope Tata Group is strong enough in India to protect Tony's (and our) interest there.

Since $70 to $80 oil prices look like they are here to stay at least for the next 2 years, won't AA pass on some or all of those price increases to passengers in the form of higher fares? Inflation is inevitable not just for airfares but generally for almost every commodity when oil prices rise. Also, lean times must be be expected in every business - that is when the quality of management really shines through. Despite his recent dumbass mistake, I have confidence that Tony will be able to steer AA through this challenging period. In the meantime at least we have the special divvy to look forward to as well as the ongoing sale of other AA businesses to support the share price; not to mention AA's determined drive to increase ancillary income so as not to be so reliant on low fuel prices for profitability.

@Springtime I think the dividend will be higher than 20c. I'm sure Tony and his buddy KM want to pare down their own personal debt for their RM1B private placement last year and the best way to do that is pay out a fat dividend. Interest alone on their personal financing must be killer.

Did you read the article? She says to look beyond the airline business and into the travel business. AA is moving away from its dependency on just selling air tickets. Ancillary income is the way forward and that won't be dependent on fuel prices.

@supersaiyan3 I like your optimism. Also, AA looking to substantially increase ancillary income per passenger which will make fuel prices less of a concern - eventually. How they intend to do that I don't know. I for one will only pay extra for better seating but hardly ever buy any of their other stuff on offer. Also, I just hope AAC deal with Kotam still on considering what is going on in N. Korea.

Its a legitimate concern, although personally I feel the impact from the cancelled flights will be negligible.

Oil spiking on Saudi geopolitics. A few pundits are saying the rise in oil prices will be short-lived. I really don't know. Otherwise looks like a good opportunity to accumulate. Does anyone know what AA has hedged fuel at for 2018?

@Chaostrader I highly doubt that. If AAC was announced today the price would likely jump RM1. AA is highly profitable and going from strength to strength. If anything, its undervalued at current levels.

@BullRunComing Good point but Tony tweeted that they are monetizing the ground handling business which is a cost centre - not a profit centre. Pretty shrewd if you ask me.

Been accumulating since last Tuesday. Last top up was yesterday at 3.18. I sold all earlier at 3.43. Got impatient after waiting so long for AAc and also got a bit spooked by the North Korea situation. Even though I made a nice gain, I felt like I was missing out. AA for me is a long term play, especially with if they can consistently deliver all the dividends as promised.

Glad I rejoined the party. Wish I had bought more though. But that's always the case isn't it? Oh well, just happy to be part of AA again.
