TNB's woes should be over once the Ukraine war is over and coal price drops to normal levels.

Whoever it serves is not important to me as long as it is able to continue paying me over 50 sen a share dividend every year. It has already done this for over a decade and will likely continue to do so.

You seem to be in the know. Was Maybank's lending to Sapura approved by you?
2022-06-28 16:37 | Report Abuse
If you had bought Maybank, CIMB bank or RHB bank two years ago, you would have made some money. If you only started to invest in glove stocks towards the end of 2020, 9 out of 10 have lost money. The US market is a hyper casino. The Dow, Nasdaq and S&P component stocks are trading at an average PE of over 50. Over half a year ago, Tesla was trading at a PE of over 800. Even today, it is still trading at a PE of over 100, so is Amazon.

"Look at how epf dump glove stock u know already net loss coming !"
Top Glove directors keep buying Top Glove shares. What does this signify? Top Glove making a lot of money?

To all Maybank detractors, just name me another counter listed on Bursa Malaysia which has a PE of around 12, a dividend yield of over 6% and which has consistently paid dividend of over 55 sen a share for over a decade. Cowards if you can't.

"Maka, RM 5.80 adalah hakikat."
To reach RM5.80 a share, Maybank has to drop by another 33% from today's level. Assuming the other component stocks of KLCI also drop by the same margin (some with higher PEs may drop more), the Index may drop to around 950 points. All other stocks listed on Bursa would be badly battered. We should be in bad recession,1US$ could be worth RM5, 1Sing$ could be worth RM4. Just use a little bit of your brain to think.

If oil price ever hits usd 150 a barrel, the government will need to increase its electricity subsidies. Read my earlier post, the government has allocated RM5.8 billion for 2H22 to pay for electricity subsidies. TNB is not a charity organization and if tariff increase is not allowed, the government will need to pay compensation. Looks like you have lost a lot of money in Tenaga.

If you think TNB should make more than RM900 million in a single quarter, then be prepared to be charged more. Are you willing to pay more?

It is easier to strike Magnum 4-D first prize this weekend than waiting for Maybank to drop to RM5.80!

Why don't you make a forecast what number will come out first prize in this weekend's Magnum 4-D draw? It could be more accurate.

"Not greedy is not a human being."
Investors have to be realistic. Several glove counters had already shot up by over 10 times by the end of Aug 2020 yet many investors kept pouring in their money. It is interesting to re-visit my comment posted at 16.55 on 10 Sept. 2020.
2022-06-26 23:26 | Report Abuse
There had been excessive speculation on glove stocks in the second half of 2020, especially in Top Glove and Supermax. I believe thousands of investors are nursing their wounds today. All because of GREED.

So the recent announcement that the Government was committed to bearing electricity subsidies amounting to RM5.8 billion in 2H22 was fake news because the Government isn't going to take money from elsewhere to cover TNB's losses. TNB is still making money because of old inventory. Similarly, Government's subsidy for Ron95 amounting to over RM2.50 per liter is also fake news. Oil companies are required to sell their oil at RM2.06 per liter. They are still making money because they too have a lot of inventory. This must be right because Under No Stand thinks so.
2022-06-26 12:40 | Report Abuse
Under No Stand, right, right, right, government doesn't subsidize oil companies so that they could sell Ron95 at RM2.06 a liter. The oil companies have to bear the losses themselves. Government going to take money elsewhere to cover the losses of oil companies, really jokers!

Tell me why TNB still made almost RM900 million in the latest quarter ending 31 March, roughly the same as the same period last year even after coal price has spiked to high levels.

"Rm 4.50.. is coming"
RM14.50 will come earlier. RM4.50 will come after adjustment for a 3 for 1 bonus issue. Maybe you don't understand what a 3 for 1 bonus is. It is too complicated for you.

"The previous quarter, the coal price was 3times lower. Prudent investor is some day dreamer talking without showing the numbers."
Even if coal price were to spike by 30 times, it would have no effect on TNB's bottom line. TNB would have lost RM900 million instead of making RM900 million in the latest quarter had there been no compensation from the government.

@KY "Mild recession? 20% crash only? Haha"
Did I write it would only crash by 20% or it would crash by another 20%? Read my post again. Which Malaysian bank stock dropped by over 90% during the world financial crisis of 2008/2009? Citibank fell by over 95%, Wells Fargo by over 90%. Sharp falls in the US banks you mentioned could be due to investors losing faith in the banks. Compare to the 2008/2009 lows, the Dow and the S&P are still more than 300% up, the Nasdaq is still 10 times higher. Why should Maybank mirror the performance of US banks?
2022-06-24 16:19 | Report Abuse
Morgan Stanley has warned its clients that should the US plunge into a recession, stock markets could crash by another 20%. No reason for Maybank to drop 33% to RM5.80.
2022-06-24 15:13 | Report Abuse
In the extremely unlikely event that Maybank drops to RM5.80, most of the other counters listed on Bursa will fall by much larger margins. Badly managed counters like Cypark may fall by over 90%.

"5.80 is just another 3.00 down from current level. It's realistic."
It is not realistic because you were only making a wild guess. Maybank needs to drop about 33% from today's level to reach RM5.80. Assuming all the other component counters of KLCI also drop by the same margin (some with high PEs like IHH and P Metal may drop more), the KLCI should drop to around 950 points. Over 90% of the counters listed on Bursa would fall much more seriously than Maybank. Only a very severe recession would result in such a situation. We will be in deep trouble.

Even today, Tesla and Amazon are still trading at PEs of around 100. How nice if CIMB and Maybank can command a PE of 100. The Dow is still more than 4 times higher than its 2009 lows, the Nasdaq is probably 10 times higher. The KLCI is only about 80% higher.

Tenaga's share price has been falling for almost 10 months now. Its lowest level in 2021 was around RM9.55 and spiked to RM11.00 just before it traded ex-dividend (58sen a share). NTA is RM9.90 and don't think it has much room to fall.

KY, I do know that many American banks are now trading at single digit PEs and I don't know the real reason. Apart from bank stocks, American shares are still very, very expensive. Dow, Nasdaq and S&P component counters are trading at an average PE of 45 to 50, even after numerous recent sharp falls. The subprime crisis of the US triggered the 2007-2008 world financial crisis. Citibank shares nose dived by over 95% and would be bankrupt without rescue. Bank of America also plunged by around 90%. It could this reason that caused investors to stay away from bank stocks. There is no reason why Maybank should mirror the performance of US bank stocks. When the US market broke record after record especially during Trump's presidency, our market didn't follow. Even if the US market drops by 50% from its recent peak, it is still trading at a PE of over 25.
