#GSK, today banks don't trade at premium to book coz of lots of Toxic assets/book. even US banks trade at discount to book. Affin is know to have toxic assets which doesn't provide any returns, hence it has been trading a huge discount. one way is to write down the toxic asset and do a deal. which will mean the book value will drop...
I have been hoping for 0.65 to 0.75 times book. or abt 3.20 per share.
LTAT also knows that Affins book is toxic.

mtg to brief Swak tomorrow?

Few things for BNM to consider in allowing Swak to take above 50% in Affin are
1) is it better keeping Affin in LTAT or Swak
2) is it worth keeping BEA in Affin as major shareholder above 20% or allowing Swak to buy them out.
3) is it better to allow a large shareholder to restructure Affin or many shareholders and go nowhere.

with LTATs 29% and BEAs 23%, Swak will get more than 50%. the price must be attractive for BEA and LTAT to sell. or else they will be stuck for longer term. Swak will undertake to pare down to lower stake at later date once Affin is restructured and ROI improves.

MBSB and MIDF done at Price to Book of 0.8 times

BPlant & Bstd GO cost abt 1.9B to LTAT.
LTAT has abt 690M Affin. at 2.80 to 3.00 can pay off the GO Loan. Not sure if LTAT need more money to pay DV to their contributors/army.

anything below 3.00 doesn't achieve LTATs objective.

any deal has a chance to be terminated so if U a long term investor, it is best to trim as the price goes up and the balance for the KILL.. if the deal gets terminated, u still have the position to buy when it drops. this is simple risk management.

so harm trimming ur position a little if U had bought cheap. EPF also sold UMW before the GO was announced..

to answer why EPF selling.
If U had 1M shares bought at avg of below 2.00 wouldnt U sell at least 5% or 50K shares at 2.40 and reduce position. sell another 5% at 2.60 and so on. this is called trimming position.

Brent Oil closed very strongly. May see a good run in ALL O&G stocks.

#kmchua, don't U think SP Energy may just acquire BA at some point. they have the means and plan to go big in FPSO.

I agree with U Niki...but I think some say when Brent is high the chances of extension will be great and no issue of default by their clients.
