hi titus, very interesting news, where did you capture this information?

Don't forget this QR has an additional shipment that missed 1Q book entry. It was brought into 2Q.

Ncm88 “Matured” buy price at 7.7 lol someone losing money crying badly, dont even know how to read chart,

---------------

Chart reading is a dying art in harvard business school. I would have thought everyone would realize that charts is a good predictor of past and present, but has no place in predicting future long term returns of stocks. And even if it did, it would still not be useful due to the speed of information and online reaction of traders and HST algorithms.

I think we would have better chance in buying stocks based on random walk theory or efficient market system.

Hi sifu philip, any idea on the news report regarding glut that will affect pchem returns? Citibank is rating a sell and revised TP of 7.20

-------------

The research house noted the de-rating was due to lower return on equity of 11% and weaker earnings uplift from the Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) expansion versus consensus.

It also said that PChem’s monoethylene glycol plant would be a key drag as it will be barely profitable due to massive glut, as well as weak China buying sentiment.

Hi sifu icon8888, any idea why only armada and sapura was caught by decline in oil price? How come yinson did not get caught? any idea why gah?

It was caught in past few years by the decline in oil price

Apart from that, it has a solid track record

Amazing, now I understand how thought process links with each other, and why some people are "street smart" and others are "book smart".

Real life knowledge is applying the general rules of life (in different disciplines) in attacking a problem.

No wonder I failed in my College A levels. haha

Issue Size (Million) 1,500.00

This is the best possible "debt" there is. I also agree with sifu philip, if a company is able to generate the reputation needed to raise 1.5 billion in perpetual bonds at 7.85% returns every year, it must be doing something right.

if you have to pay back the debt in 999 years, it is not a debt ( i do not agree with sifu stockraider assumption), it is an equity.

i think stockraider here is not so smart to challenge philip with his not so satisfactory return on results. Even if QL is something that is taking time to consolidate due to high PE, the revenue and earnings is growing year after year. Sifu Philip did say he bought it in 2009.

His investment in Yinson though is even more exemplary. stockraider says it is a overvalued company, but philips share of the company is very impressive, considering that yinson is now a 7.4 billion dollar company.

i think that is the problem when you are monitoring 50 stocks in the portfolio, it is hard to keep track in detail how your business is doing. it is far easier to just take a cursory look at the share price and stock trend and quarterly report to see how things are doing now, but probably hard to see how things will be like 5 years from now tee hee hee..

I still prefer philips way of doing things.

Hi Mr Lee Soon Shen,

I think you are also missing a big point, with 2250 stores, Seven-11 is making net profit of 44 million ringgit a year, from 2.26 billion of sales. If we give out the same projection, with maximized distribution centers and efficient delivery mechanism and 50% > private label brands (made by QL foods under FM international specifications), Mr Philip is probably looking at a math of 200 million net profit yearly from the same amount of 2250 stores.

not to mention the added direct revenue to QL foods and share profit margins in the long term to QL resources directly.

I'm excited enough to consider buying QL shares (even though it is so expensive now I probably will not. PE50!).

Good wonderful companies does not necessarily make a good wonderful investment.

Unless QL buys over and merges LHI, then I'm all in.

I think Mr Philip meant that he was at Family Mart at 11.15 pm at night. What convenient stores has long queues at midnight? That is pretty amazing actually - Although I think it is probably more due to the newness of the franchise in Melaka than anything else. We should come back in 3 months and see if the queue is the same as the putu piring nearby.

Posted by jellyfish > Jun 8, 2019 9:02 AM | Report Abuse

long queue means bad service, convenient stores should not have queues.

Looking at the number of stocks that calvin bought I dont think really necessary to go to the extent of finding his stock broker etc. Not that Mr Phillip will be bothered in any case.

I think the clarity is more important, how does Mr Calvin invest?

Does Mr Calvin spread his purchases equally among all the stocks that he bought? Does he hold them for long periods of time? Or as in the case of carimin he bought it at 49 and saw it drop to 25 then he sold it one year later at 63?

Does Mr Calvin top up like Mr Phillip on his stocks every quarter? Or does he only buy once and not average down or up?

Most importantly does Mr Calvin keep all his money into stocks fully invested? Or does he keep some as backup for when the deals get really good?

Hope for some clarity on the investment strategy of Mr Calvin. As his analysis on his stock investments are very thorough and concise, but what I think irks the the I3 public is how Calvin practises his buycalls in reality.

Have a great week Mr Calvin, God bless. Hoping to learn more from Sifu Calvin and Sifu Phillip.

This is a wonderful opportunity to buy more GKENT shares at low prices. how does trump affect gkent? was there any profit or earnings losses due to China/US trade war? will LRT3 progress claim not be billed next quarter? Will the contract be canceled?

If the answer is no, then the only explanation is: Market sentiment.

If market sentiment is across the board, then the effect will be temporary.

Aka: Flash sales, allowing us to buy more shares of GKENT at depressed prices.

Will GKENT do well in the next few years? Is there any outstanding debt or bombs in the business? Are they losing money? Will things not get done?

If the answer is no, then the only explanation is: Buy more.

to pay off hardworking norwegian staff? I support 100%. I would rather pay the staff who help me save money long term (helang FPSO and nippon JV) with deposit and downpayment for charters than to give high salary to ceos like leon harland, who bring you to holland, take golden parachute, and can't even perform and deliver on their chosen projects (kraken project in black sea).

from my years of investing and following yinson, I have realized that their clients and tender bids are carefully chosen, they make sure the payments can be completed in case of contract cancellation,

so far the only problems that have occured in yinson are due to force majeur, out of control.

so yes, I would give esos at 2.8, i get back few hundred million in earnings every year without fail and no losses so far.

It is a price worth paying for excellence.

Hi Mr KC Chongz, may I pick you brain, I have been an investor in GKENT since dec 2018, and would like to have you opinion on cash flow generation analysis and more importantly the dividend sustainability of GKENT. I realized that mr Philip and I both have the same idea in investing in GKENT for the high dividend (I am currently enjoying 8% as I bought mine at the lows of 0.89 in december).

Do you think GKENT will continue to be able to pay a dividend next year? Or will it turn sour you think?

Cheers, and thanks for any criticism and information that comes my way.

In either case as time draws near, I believe that JAKS will be able to perform within the RM1.50 per share level (especially when unit 2 goes online) due to either technical momentum, fundamental profits clarity from the EPCC works awarded by JHDP to golden keen holdings limited in vietnam, and some recovery of the construction and property market in malaysia.

Within that range I would be more comfortable investing in JAKS for the medium term.

Hi Mr Lee, I would love to.

Qualitatively, I look on it from a Chinaman company business perspective. 70% is owned by CPECC, china power engineering Consulting which has a workforce of 9000, which has successfully completed 49000 MW of power plant projects, and most importantly is a state owned subsidiary of China Gov. As the construction of the power plant is still ongoing with pictures and testing commissioning done for various stages as per progress schedule from CPECC website report. (unit 1 to be completed in end 2019) and unit 2 to follow in 2020. This would be what I term as business fundamentals unchanged. On JAKS end, there are no major issues on the property development end which will cause major damage to the company, as its assets are in valuable locations and will prove easy to offload, if needed. The interest commitments are not too onerous

The risk factor here (which caused the share price to drop) was mainly on JAKS management end. The warrants issue, rights issue, the CEO unwillingness to add Mr Koon and his apointee on the board of directors is definitely a cause of concern. This can be construed both ways:

1)either Mr Ang is not a majority shareholder of his own company and is uncomfortable with another party taking power in the boardroom and pushing short term decisions for the company,
2)or Mr Ang is planning to do certain activities that will harm shareholder value (which Mr Koon will be unable to stop or reject and bring to vote).

It can lean both ways.

In either case, as I have entered my position below RM0.6, I feel confident within the short term of 1-3 years I should be able to enjoy 20% average return on the stock, which for me is more than good enough, as I have my eye on a few more companies with longer term potential.

At PE50, it is time to cut down on exposure in QL and add into gkent and jaks as both these projects are offering more visibility in long term earnings.
