The electronic “brains” that control Tesla Inc.’s Autopilot are about to get much faster. In a series of tweets responding to a report on Electrek.co Tesla CEO Elon Musk said a new chip would be installed in all new production cars in about six months that improves Autopilot performance between 500% and 2000%.

In one tweet, Musk explained the move, saying “ This is a simple replacement of the Autopilot computer. Will be done free of charge for those who ordered full self-driving.”
