I had followed his same style of recommendation on bjcorp 6 year ago but keep trending downward from 60 cents to below 30 cents now.

His remark bjcorp are Berkshire of Malaysia is an insult to intelligent investor!!

Can you believe what he said about how good asb is??

Sohai. Really!

Bj corp and Mui Bhd?

Their time will come

One buddy told me about buying MUI bhd at 16 sen

Now already going to make 50% in MUI bhd even before Corus Hotel Hyde Park London is sold

Asb already got secured buyer from Spore with 10% deposit paid.

So MUI bhd up on news. Asb 8.3 sen net profit is a reality

As for Azrb those who bought cheap at 34.5 sen still making good money

Those who chased above 55 sen?

Sorry for euphoria which is wrong time to chase

Now that Asb is only less than 15 sen (2014 prices) price is cheap

All clever people go buy public bank

We are conrarians buying Asb

Contrarian, sorchai or odd one out?

So be it

So happy now!

For Asb the buyer for the Shah Alam asset is a Spore company who also bought lands from UMW and fully paid

So these freehold lands priced below Rm200psf (0r just S$66 psf) are really cheap for Spore investor

In Tuas Spore they are selling leasehold lands with only 20 years lease for even much higher price

So 8.3 sen profit for Asb is a given

A.S.B?

A Solid Buy

Just like buying Gsb at 9 sen

Today Gsb already up 100% to 18 sen.

History is spooky

When Calvin first posted buy call for Asb at 15 sen in May 15 2014...5 years ago there were naysayers

Now 5 years later there are new naysayers

Those who missed 15 sen for Asb missed the 70% upside later

Same pattern

Same scenario

Now replaced by new players?

So spooky?

Look at it this way

Water is cash

When water turns into ice water now in solidification

calvintaneng

56,638 posts

Cash turns into houses, lands, buildings, hotels mean cash in solidification

calvintaneng

56,638 posts

Now cash can be kept in Fd at 3% bank interest

Over time inflation kills the value of purchasing power

calvintaneng

56,638 posts

Posted by calvintaneng > 2019-06-10 15:24 | Report Abuse

So you buy shares of companies generating profit above bank Fd

But since REITs give mediocre yield you must look for Asset play

What is Asset Play

Asset plays are companies sitting on assets that are grossly undervalue

Any selling will show huge gain of

3x
Or 10x

There is a time to sow

AND a time to reap

Time to sow is in winter

Time to reap is in summer

He who does not sow in winter will also not reap in summer

This is the law for prosperity and success

He who sows nothing reap nothing

He who sows sparingly will reap sparingly

He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully

Asb also owns Captii limited in Spore

They have been holding 58% Captii Ltd since its listing

AND Asb received 3.1% dividend from Captii limited

Asb reinvested the dividends just like Berkshire got dividends from See's Candy and reinvested in other businesses

Another good reason for investing in Asb is it's cash rich and asset rich position

Not so for many over leveraged companies with high debts and little cash
In coming months as companies going to report tepid profits many will be hard up to pay back bank loans

So there will go by way of private placement to raise capital. If no one interested then they will give Rights Issue with free warrants

Another one is XOX going to give Rights issue to pay bank loans or else it will go into default

So stick with Asb for it will get Rm124 millions cash soon

calvintaneng

For seacera even with a 30% discount for Rights issue it is just too late as Banks want to foreclose it for being unable to pay debts

And seacera share price crashed without support. Even the last substantial share holder forced to liquidate his seacera shares

Seacera is another example of high debt company with little cash and illiquid assets

Calvin tan just put his own self under the bus by reposting his comments in 2014. From zero respect he has made me lose even more respect for him and his stock pick skills. In 2014 he bought a dead end stock, going up her promoted kaw kaw saying it is worth xxx... But if you followed his full recommendations he conveniently left out how much he bought and how much he sold ASB. But the fact is in 5 years the stock has been a dead end. Only Calvin will say he make big profit can see the future Chun Chun buy and Chun Chun sell.

This is his portfolio for 2019:
https://klse.i3investor.com/servlets/pfs/123029.jsp

The funny thing is with all his comparing himself to Peter Lynch, none of his stocks have stood the test of time.

In retrospect, in the similar time period I had bought into YINSON, and because I had confidence in the business every quarter I topped up my investment without fail, knowing that only wonderful businesses will give you the faith to buy on weakness, average up/down and just hold.

If this is Calvin idea of eating steak, thank God I am a vegetarian.

Again,
Calvin's portfolio for 2019:

Today I visited Family Mart and tried the much touted wasabi icecream cone

This is my findings

1. At Rm2.90 it is quite expensive compared to McDonald milk icecream cone at only Rm1.00

Of course mostly palm oil milk substitute

2. Is the purported value and taste of Family Mart wasabi icecream justified for it's high price?

A. I think overpriced as it is not the same type of wasabi I tasted in Kyoto, Japan when I last visited there

2. The wasabi in Malaysia is made from wasabi powder which retails for Rm35 a kg. Whereas the wasabi in Japan icecream is made from fresh wasabi.

Wasabi can only be grown in cold, pure running stream in Japan. So it is maintained fresh in pure cool stream.

I think there might be some coloring as there is no oomph in the wasabi ice cream here unlike Japan where you get a kick like chilli.

I think this will be my final and final try of Family Mart wasabi icecream

Better go for McDonald icecream cone at only Rm1.00

McDonald one taste smoother as it is not made from powder

Only 20 to 25% are original products sold in Family Mart. Rest is made in Malaysia.
I saw Tong Gardens product sold there as well as many other Malaysia made products

It's Swiss roll retails for Rm3.10. I think 7 Eleven sells cheaper

Overall it is a 50/50 gamble for Family Mart with it's expensive franchise and products

How to buy QL at above Rm6.00 as the business model is still new in Malaysia

Caveat emptor
