KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Group Bhd via Berjaya Philippines Inc is eyeing the 1.72 billion pesos (RM125.6 million) common ticketing system for Metro Manila's three mass rail systems.

Berjaya Philippines, in a consortium known as Comworks Consortium, has been shortlisted to bid for the common ticketing system or automated fare collection system (AFCS) for Light Rail Transit Lines 1 (LRT1) and 2 (LRT2) and the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3).

Other partners in the consortium are Kaosheung Rapid Transit Corp, Acer Inc and InfoChamp System Corp, according to Philippines' Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).

In a statement, DOTC said besides Comworks Consortium, four other groups have been prequalified for the bidding. The four are AF Consortium, SM Consortium, E-Trans Solutions JV Inc and Megawide-Suyen-Eurolink Consortium.

Another Malaysian company, MTD Capital, via a consortium known as MTD-PRLM, along with three other consortia, failed to make the bid.

According to DOTC, the actual bidding for the common ticketing system is scheduled in the third quarter of this year.

"Technical and financial bids should be submitted by June and July 5 respectively. The notice of award is scheduled on July 30," the statement said.

On the ticketing system, DOTC said similar to Hong Kong's Octopus card, the Philippine version will allow commuters to use a single ticket when they ride the LRT1, LRT2 and MRT3 lines. The three rail services have a combined ridership of a million a day.
