For what I know if we wish to convert the right to share we have to send back the form with bank draft before the dateline.

No. RM1.65 is the cost we have to pay to convert one unit of right to become MBSB share.

I think this bugger is on the way to become a bank. It has all the ingredients to be one, with good loan customer base and project financing. . if indeed it becomes a bank, then current prices are pretty affordable - any taikos can elaborate on this, as discussion?

normally to ask for $ u first tell ppl what u wanna do, but mbsb is doing the opposite... mbsb is not short of $ but it called for right, market is not impressed, esp after buying new office block. some guess the actual purpose of the $ is to do acquisition, no clue yet which co. mbsb is going after, but with this right executed the plan has started.

MBSB needs the $$$ to park at accounts and lower the CAR (Capital Adequacy Ratio), a requirement before it can even be considered for banking status by BNM.

gark

Capital adequacy ratio is the ratio which determines the bank's capacity to meet the time liabilities and other risks such as credit risk, operational risk etc. In the most simple formulation, a bank's capital is the "cushion" for potential losses, and protects the bank's depositors and other lenders. Banking regulators in most countries define and monitor CAR to protect depositors, thereby maintaining confidence in the banking system.[1]

CAR is similar to leverage; in the most basic formulation, it is comparable to the inverse of debt-to-equity leverage formulations (although CAR uses equity over assets instead of debt-to-equity; since assets are by definition equal to debt plus equity, a transformation is required). Unlike traditional leverage, however, CAR recognizes that assets can have different levels of risk.

Current MBSB CAR% is below the required minimum 8% to be recognized as 'bank' by BNM. Other Malaysian banks have range of between 12%-15%

The $ raised from rights will not go anywhere, will just be deposit (earn interest) to increase capital and treated as Tier 1 capital...

gark

With higher capital.. and a comfortable CAR%, MBSB can then apply for banking license AND increase loan distributed.

For those interested to see BNM technical CAR% requirements can see from this link...

Failure to maintain the CAR% ratio, you can lose your banking license.. so this is the most important ratio for any banks in the world...
