HCMC – Malaysian Berjaya Leisure (Cayman) Limited under Berjaya Corporation has been licensed to build the Nhon Trach New City Center in the southern province of Dong Nai, said a provincial official.
Bo Ngoc Thu, director of Dong Nai Department of Planning and Investment, told the Daily on the phone on Tuesday that “we just issued an investment certificate this week” for Berjaya to develop this mammoth project.
She said the project was licensed after the central Government early this month gave approval in principle for the investor to develop the project in the province’s Nhon Trach District. The 600-hectare project, which requires total investment of some US$2 billion, is envisaged becoming a commercial, service, tourism and educational and administration center in the southern focal economic zone.
Under a master zoning plan for Nhon Trach District, this new modern urban center has an infrastructure system built synchronously and completely in many aspects. The development of the new Nhon Trach urban center will be divided into four phases from now to 2020, each of which is to include commerce and public construction, and housing units.
Thu of the department said given this project, the total committed foreign direct investment in the province has amounted to US$2.76 billion in the year to date. This is the biggest FDI project licensed in Dong Nai this year, and is also the second project of Berjaya in Dong Nai.
In September last year, Berjaya D2D Company Limited – a joint venture between Berjaya Leisure Cayman and the local company Industrial Urban Development Company 2 (D2D), started work on a major property development project worth US$100 million in Dong Nai. The project called Bien Hoa City Square is comprised of a 22-floor, five-star hotel with 263 rooms, a 20-floor office building, a 20-floor high-end apartment building with 448 units and a three-floor commercial center.
The Bien Hoa City Square project covers nearly 2.6 hectares in Thong Nhat Ward in Bien Hoa City, and is scheduled for completion within three years of construction, according to the joint venture. The joint venture has plans to open its model house of this project in Dong Nai this week.
Elsewhere in the country, the Berjaya Group has also received investment certificates for some real estate projects, including a US$3.5-billion international university township and the US$930 million Vietnam Financial Center covering 6.8 hectares, both in HCMC.
In Hanoi, Berjaya Land is developing a residential and commercial project called Thach Ban New City on 31.3 hectares in Long Bien District at an estimated cost of US$500 million. It also has a project to build Long Beach resort on Phu Quoc Island.
