Too expensive to buy as the shares are heading towards South Indian Ocean too , by weekly it will drop by 1 to 2 sens !! Right now MAS is at the mercy of the Govt to rescue as in coming months it will cost MAS a lot a lot RM$$$ for the current saga lahhhh

MAS operating cash flow is in the negative region and its cash holding is depleting fast. It is a matter time it will need fresh borrowings or equity injection.

As reported on 26/3/14 by Bloomberg, MAS is liable to pay millions in damages even if plane not found. Family members could claim as much as USD175,000 (RM578,000) for every passenger aboard MH370 even if the Malaysia Airlines jet is not located.

Airlines are liable under the Montreal Convention of 1999, an international treaty that covers air travel, to pay damages for every passenger killed or injured in an accident, even if the cause cannot be established.

As there were 227 passengers on board MH370, Malaysia Airlines' liability could come close to USD40m. But if an airline is found to be guilty of negligence, its liability can be much higher. The cap of about USD175,000 in damages per passenger as stipulated in the treaty may no longer apply in this scenario, as family members of the affected passengers may sue and demand much higher compensation.

I will not touch this share with a ten foot pole.

My guess is some people is blowing hot air on MAS shares and pushing it down for them to collect later. On the losses, insurance and reinsurance company are more than able to cover the possible losses. No insurance or reinsurance co will go bankcrupt over this incident as the risk are spread across the world..

Haha, it won't go bankrupt since it's majority owned by our local fund. Worse case scenario would be it ends up like proton being sell off to another GLC's company.

Since it's not the money from their own pockets, who care whose money is that! If you say they might contribute to KWSP,KWAP and any retirement fund too, yes they might but who care about those small money when they would easily get millions from the contract awarded or super CHEAP land deal from the government...

　馬航是馬來西亞主要航空公司，但數年來一直遭遇虧損。2013年，馬航全年虧損11.7億令吉，接近2012年虧損額的3倍。馬航原盼望“2014旅遊馬來西亞年”能吸引中國遊客，盼望今年扭虧為盈，但MH370墜毀將此化為泡影。

　根據《蒙特利爾公約》，不論航空公司有無對錯，首先必須對旅客的人身傷亡承擔上限約17.58萬美元（約58萬令吉）的賠償；如果旅客的人身傷亡由承運人的過錯造成，則賠償無上限。

　從歷史案例看，不乏因空難賠償而破產的航空公司。如美國泛美航空公司1988年在蘇格蘭發生空難，3年后宣告破產。西班牙航空公司2008年發生事故，造成154人死亡，4年后停止運營。此次，馬航可能也難逃破產命運，賠償或許會用盡該公司最后一分錢。

MAS have raised around RM 5b mainly from right issues RM 3b and RM 2b from fresh borrowings. Its cash balance as of last year end reported at RM 3.7b; MAS operating expenses for previous year Q3 and Q4 were RM 3.8b and RM 3.9b respectively. Its working capital is also in the negative region of RM 1.6b.

Now, let ask yourself this question. Even without the current dilemma, how much longer can MAS stay afloat?

Anger over Malaysia’s announcement that MH370 fell with no survivors has moved across the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand where a passenger’s wife was alerted via text message.

Sara Weeks, the sister of Paul Weeks, in an interview with local media said the situation has been handled “appallingly, incredibly insensitively”.

Paul’s wife Danica received a text message from Malaysia Airlines, while Sara got the news at 3.30am via a phone call from her mother who did not want Sara to hear it on the news.

“Everyone is angry about it.

“The Malaysian government, the airline, it’s just all been incredibly poor.

“Who’s to say they can’t locate the airline the day it happened?” she is quoted as saying.

She also said that information was withheld from families and took very long to get through.

This follows acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein’s appeal for calm from families.

He also commended Australian families, whom he said had been responding to the tragedy in a “rational” manner.

he government would consider setting up a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on the MH370 tragedy, but any such commission needs to wait until the flight recorder and black box data of the flight has been retrieved.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim said today that the government’s focus remains on finding the black box of the flight right now.

Stupid BN MP Bung Moktar

Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) said that he would volunteer to help in the search for the black box.

“I volunteer to help search for the black box. Come, I urge all parliamentarians to together help in this search,” he said, after Shahidan had said that the government could use any help it could get to locate the black box.

“Bring us all to the Indian Ocean,” Bung Moktar urged.
