Accidents do happen....

Accident leaves Lynas products scattered on road

An accident involving a lorry loaded with Lynas rare-earth products left the commodities scattered on the road in Lanchang, Pahang this morning, resulting in the road stretch being closed to traffic.

Lynas Malaysia public relations and communications general manager Amin Abdullah has confirmed this matter, but stressed that the products are not dangerous and none are radioactive.

One of the longest-kept secrets surrounding the bloody Memali incident was laid bare last night: that the then prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) was in Malaysia when police forces killed Ibrahim Libya and his followers in a clash.

For decades, it was reported that his deputy Tun Musa Hitam took charge of the operations as home minister in 1985 because Dr Mahathir was in China for a visit.

The context of last night's revelation by Musa in Kota Baru is important because the then deputy prime minister's image took a major hit and he subsequently fell out with Dr Mahathir.

The Memali incident occurred at a remote village in Baling, Kedah, in November 1985.

A team of policemen laid siege to the village of about 400 people and where the late Ibrahim Mahmud, also known as Ibrahim Libya had been running a religious school.

The incident resulted in 14 civilian deaths and two police deaths.

During the incident, Dr Mahathir had reportedly been in China but Musa claimed that he was in fact in Malaysia at the time.

He made the revelation during a political discussion yesterday in Kota Baru, which was organised by the Kelantan government.

Also present at the discussion were PAS vice-president Datuk Husam Musa and moderator Professor Madya Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusof.

When asked by Agus whether Dr Mahathir was in Kuala Lumpur during the incident, Musa said two to three days afterwards, he was still in the capital.

In response, Agus said in a shocked tone “Oh my God” as the media had consistently reported that Dr Mahathir was in China during the incident.

"Ok, my God, our God," Musa said in an amused tone in reply to Agus's reaction.

During the discussion, Musa said: "The darkest moment in my political career was Memali, I am being honest."

He said that was also what he told his friends in politics.

The Memali incident saw hundreds of people detained. All were later freed except for 36 who were detained under the Internal Security Act.

Following the Memali incident, Musa was blamed as he was reportedly the acting prime minister at that time.

Dr Mahathir was supposedly visiting China at the time.

Musa's shocking revelation will open up a new episode in the tragic incident.

PAS has described all those who died as martyrs.

In truth Mahahtir was around in every major crisis and event more than anyone knows. He was around when he was not in Malaysia when Anwar was acting PM, and all those that were reported with proxy eyes. Who are they? For one Daim. You cannot clap without a pair of hands.

COMMENT: Well, well, well! Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must be a “very worried man” when he woke up this morning (March 28).

Two news reports over the past 24 hours have hinted that Pakatan is to be blamed for MH370’s fate and for instigating the angry Chinese nationals to protest.

Asiaone reports that Pakatan is the hidden hand behind Beijing’s protests, quoting Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, son of former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad; and

USA Today reports that MAS’ pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah (a PKR member) is solely responsible for MH370, according to a high-ranking officer attached to a special investigative branch of the Malaysia police force in Kuala Lumpur.

One wonders who are all these so-called high ranking officials who are talking to the foreign media?

However, such politically motivated Umno-led Barisan Nasional-looking “spins” are not surprising as they work perfectly in domestic scandals and conspiracies.

Not Umno? Then who is Mukhriz? Pakatan?

Now, who’s starting to politicise the fate of MH370 and the 239 souls aboard the MAS Boeing 777 jet?

Ahh! Now the police. Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has been ever so ‘transparent’ in media briefings with Defence Minister cum Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein?

Khalid’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) response to questions: “I cannot comment. Investigation is still in progress.”

No, the IGP is smarter and more intelligent than what most Malaysians would think. His strategy is likely to be “don’t commit, wait for the right stuff to surface and the right time to blow the whistle”.

Government conspiracy? You be the judge.

Now, back to Mukhriz and China’s wrath. Isn’t Umno giving too much credit to Anwar and Pakatan?

To Umno, Anwar is a man with amazing natural political talents. He’s not only able to influence and manipulate the Americans to support him, he is now also able to do so in China!

However, the combined powers of the US and China are no match to Umno in Malaysia. You better believe that.

Mukhriz told reporters in Changlun that he would not be surprised if Pakatan leaders had their hands behind the protest march involving the relatives of MH370 flight from China at the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing on Tuesday (March 25).

Mukhriz said he did not discount the possibility as the issues raised by the 200 infuriated relatives during the protest were similar to those uttered by opposition leaders in this country.

He lamented the Pakatan leaders' lack of patriotism by manipulating the unprecedented crisis to discredit the government at international level.

“This is Pakatan Rakyat’s patriotism. They would seize and capitalise on just any issue including such a tragic incident to smear the BN government's image.

“We are in the midst of a global crisis involving the lives of hundreds of passengers and crew on board the ill-fated aircraft.

“It is despicable for them to harp on the tragedy to score political points while we are supposed to unite in facing this crisis,” Mukhriz said in his speech at the launching of Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) “Sentuhan Kasih” Programme and the affordable housing project for the second generation of Felda Laka Selatan.

The leaders of China must surely be “idiots” to allow Anwar and Pakatan to instigate protests in their country. One wonders how these Chinese idiots have the intelligence and capability to send a manned space shuttle to the moon and back. Can the Malaysian government do that?

Malaysians can now wait with bated breath to see whether the rest of the world will buy the two conspiracy theories being dangled like cheese in a mouse trap.

Heng seai kieKUALA LUMPUR: A group of opposition leaders today urged police to arrest Wanita MCA chief Heng Seai Kie if it is proven that she was behind a ‘seditious’ MH370 post on her Facebook account.

Uploaded on Wednesday, the post accused DAP and PKR of spreading ‘disturbing rumours inciting the emotions of Chinese passengers’ families’ aboard the plane which went missing on March 8.

It reads: “From my understanding, family members of the crashed plane are so upset because DAP and PKR have access to mainland China’s largest social media platform WeChat and Weibo.

“They have been spreading rumours using the two platforms and made the Chinese doubt our government, even information obtained by China’s officials is being obtained from WeChat and Weibo.

“If this is true, this batch of DAP and PKR leaders are willing to belittle and slander their own country just for their own political interests.

“They and their families should be hung to death and receive severe punishment of the law.”

As of noon today the posting, in Mandarin, had received 607 comments and 89 ‘shares’.

DAP’s Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said he waited two days for Heng to clarify the Facebook statement, but she still has not done so.

Lim rubbished the claim that PKR and DAP leaders had used Weibo or WeChat to attack Malaysia’s handling of the crisis.

“PKR and DAP have no official account on these two sites. Such a baseless accusation is a serious offence under the Sedition Act, Malaysia Communication and Multimedia Act, and Penal Code.

“We want the police to immediately arrest Heng Seai Kie if she was indeed behind the message. If she is not, then arrest the real perpetrator,” Lim said after lodging a police report here today.

After Najib Tun Razak announced that MH370 had crashed into the southern Indian Ocean, Chinese nationals unleashed their anger at the Malaysian government and MAS through various platforms.

Family members of MH370 passengers staged a protest in front of the Malaysian embassy in Beijing, while netizens launched a tirade against Malaysian artistes such as Fish Leong and Shila Amza.

Yesterday, BN’s Simpang Renggam MP, Liang Teck Meng, claimed that Pakatan Rakyat supporters had disgraced the nation by joining the Chinese in criticising the government on Facebook.

In one posting, a Pakatan supporter dared the government to use the Sedition Act against the Chinese media that ran critical reports of Malaysian government.

Another challenged Najib to repeat the sentence: “Apa lagi Cina mau?” (What more do the Chinese want), a statement made by BN after the GE13.

When asked for his opinion regarding the posts, Lim said DAP and PKR officials were not involved.

“Whoever made such statements should be responsible and be prepared to face the music,” he said.

Memali incident shows how Dr Mahathir treated others under his rule, says opposition MP

New revelations about the bloody police raid on Kampung Memali 23 years ago, by a former deputy prime minister, has shed light on the true character of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed and how the former prime minister treated those under him, said a PAS lawmaker.

Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad (pic) said Dr Mahathir's decision to let his then deputy Tun Musa Hitam take the blame for the police raid on the village, which resulted in 14 civilian and two police deaths, showed how he victimised his subordinates.

"This is the real character of Mahathir, who everyone regards as a great statesman. His actions have harmed our institutions and systems and have led us to where we are," Khalid told reporters after a forum at Kompleks Karangkraf in Shah Alam today.

It had been widely believed that Dr Mahathir had been visiting China when the raid occurred, thereby absolving him of the ultimate responsibility of ordering the police to use deadly force in the raid.

That belief also placed ultimate responsibility for the loss of lives on Musa.

However, two days ago, Musa revealed that Mahathir had been in the country when the raid happened, thereby implying that the latter knew about the details and scope of the raid. – March 28, 2014.

马来西亚和中国交往的历史悠久，早在明朝郑和七下西洋时期开始，中国就和当时的马六甲王朝有来往。抗战时期，马来亚华人的捐款达中国总军费的三分之一，并且有3千多名汽车驾驶员和维修工到中国参加抗战，很多人异死他乡。广州黄花岗七十二烈士中，有30多位是马新人。

马来西亚是第一个和中国建交的东南亚国家。六四事件发生后，当欧美国家孤立中国时，马来西亚始终不离不弃。美国重返亚洲，当菲律宾和越南藉机在南海和中国发生争执时，马来西亚没有派军舰抗议中国在距离砂拉越仅80海里的地方建领海界碑。

The problem is, can anyone accept that the plane has crash and everyone has died?
I think the hard part is, there is no body of evidence and second, the plane wreckage has not even been found. Third,the announcement by PM was again base on experts using 19 Centrury and Doppler physics to derive where the aircraft ended.

All the above is fine except the flaw in the argument itself. Firstly Malaysia maintained up till now that we act and brief based on investigated facts gathered. However the above announcement by PM has no evidence and is only true if you find the wreckage and then reverse prove that Doppler is accurate. Up till now, after the PM's announcement, satellite spotted debris are not found while Malaysia has admitted at this point to withhold information. Do you think those with family or friends on board should be satisfied even though they initially may have accepted the Pm's announcement.but no still cannot recover the wreckage? The excuse of rough seas and imminent danger to the SAR personnel can be accepted if the deduction that the flight crashed was not announced earlier.

A Malaysian couple were jailed yesterday by a Stockholm court for beating their children in a case that has shocked Sweden, and raised questions about how it informs foreign parents about its smacking ban.

Azizul Awalludin, 38, and his wife Shalwati Norshal, 46, were sentenced to 10 and 14 months respectively for hitting their four children - aged seven to 14 - with a bamboo stick, a clothes hanger and their hands. They denied the charges.

But the court rejected the defence's claim that the oldest child had made up the three years of abuse. "That the children could conspire and agree together to put forward a false picture of domestic violence appears to be highly unlikely," the court said, adding that the children had been reluctant to give evidence.

The couple - in Sweden on an assignment for Tourism Malaysia but without diplomatic immunity - have been held on remand since December, when staff at the children's school reported suspicions of abuse to social services.

The case has shocked child rights observers in Sweden - which was the world's first country to ban corporal punishment of children in 1979 - and sparked outrage in the couple's home country, where hitting children is not a criminal offence.

"These cases are so extremely rare in Sweden today. This is much more severe than what we're used to," child abuse analyst Staffan Janson said.

"They may not have known [about the ban], though they may have thought that they had some kind of immunity."

But some have questioned whether Sweden is doing enough to inform newcomers of the law, as foreign-born parents are over-represented in official statistics on child assault.

Janson said smacking was more common among foreign-born parents when they first arrived, but it usually tapered off as they integrated into Sweden.

Interpol hits back at Malaysia claim that int’l police to blame for MH370 passport confusion

Officials from Interpol refuted a claim from Malaysia Friday in which the government said it could not check through the international police agency’s passport database because the process was too much of a burden.

As international investigators continue their search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight that disappeared weeks ago, the Malaysian government revealed it had not checked the passports of the missing passengers with Interpol’s database, which lists stolen passports.

Interior Minister Zahid Hamidi told the Malaysian parliament Wednesday that Interpol’s vast database of lost passport records was “too large” and would be too much for Malaysia’s database management system, according to Reuters quoting the local Malay Mail Online.

“Furthermore, Interpol’s information of lost (passports) may slow down the process of immigration checks at counters,” Zahid said.

Two passengers were able to board flight MH 370 with stolen Austrian and Italian passports. The plane, which has still not been recovered, was last tracked over the South China Sea on March 8 with 239 people on board. The authorities have said they do not think the two passengers in question had anything to do with the mystery.

Interpol has taken exception to the country’s assertion. The Lyon, France-based agency said Friday that no member country has ever complained that the process is too slow, in part because it takes under a second to find out if a passport is listed as stolen.

“Malaysia’s decision not to consult INTERPOL’s Stolen and Lost Travel Documents (SLTD) database before allowing travellers to enter the country or board planes cannot be defended by falsely blaming technology or INTERPOL,” it said. “If there is any responsibility or blame for this failure, it rests solely with Malaysia’s Immigration Department.”

Frustration with Malaysia stretches far beyond the offices of Interpol, though, as a large boycott of all things Malaysian has been organized in China in response to what millions of people perceive as a flawed investigation.

Barbara Demnick of the Los Angeles Times reported on Friday that the families of the missing passengers who have gathered at Beijing’s Lido hotel since March 8 protested a Malaysia Airlines press conference rather than listen to another update. There were 227 passengers onboard the flight, 153 of them Chinese.

“I just want to say to the Chinese families – it is not just them,” Malaysian transportation minister Hishamuddin Hussein said Friday at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur. “Fourteen other nations have lost family members.”

A number of Chinese ticketing agencies have prohibited the sale of airplane tickets to Malaysia, with a spokesman from eLong travel saying the agency would keep the policy in place “indefinitely until the Malaysian government and Malaysia Airlines release every piece of information they have in order to find out the truth of the missing flight as soon as possible.”
