History shows back-to-back losing years for the stocks are rare — but the size of the market’s drop in 2022 with no sign the Federal Reserve is ready to ride to the rescue means investors should beware, analysts warned.

With just a handful of trading days left in what is shaping up to be the worst year for the U.S. stock market in over a decade, the S&P 500 index is on track to close out the year down more than 18.5%.

That is the large-cap index’s first double-digit percentage loss since 2008, when it slid 36.6% during the global financial crisis, according to Dow Jones Market Data.

However, it is extremely rare for the S&P 500 to post back-to-back down years. The S&P has fallen for two straight years less than 10% of the time from 1928 to 2021. In the year after a negative total annual return for the S&P, the index is up by 12.6% on average and is positive 17 out of 25 years, according to data compiled by DataTrek Research.

But the market’s performance after posting a double-digit percentage drop has been less straightforward.

“The S&P 500 has a much better win rate (79% vs 55%) and average performance (up 17.5% vs. 6.4%) in the 12 months following a down calendar year of less than 10% than one that does worse than that, and 2022 is shaping up to be in the latter camp,” said Jessica Rabe, co-founder of DataTrek Research, in a Tuesday note.

Actually Coastal up alot already leh. Even the last 2 Qtr profit also not very fantastic mah. Most of the profit also from mana you read pun can know leh. If remove the 2 parts left not much also leh. Better dont chase the ctr lah. Since Sifu OTB enter earlier at very much lower price with safety margin still belum lose money lagi. The company is giving a $7,500 credit in the United States and a $5,000 credit in Canada on Model 3 and Model Y vehicles delivered before the end of the year, and also free supercharging for 10,000 miles, the pages showed.

Tesla has been one of the main beneficiaries of the Biden administration's Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which offers rebates of up to $7,500 on EV purchases as part of a law intended to push automakers to reduce their reliance on China.

The latest discount comes just days after the U.S. Treasury Department delayed releasing its proposed guidance on the required sourcing of electric vehicle batteries.

Investors are worried Tesla has been facing softening demand. The company in October said it would miss its vehicle delivery target this year, but downplayed concerns about demand after its revenue missed Wall Street estimates.
