Wow, it’s unusual to see ICAP price rising so fast recently! Are speculators returning to ICAP?

ICAP was trading at a peak of 25.7% PREMIUM on 9/1/08 when speculators were actively ‘goreng’ it. However, speculators abandoned ship when market sharp drop during the US financial crisis & ICAP turn into trading at DISCOUNT since 8/10/08 & the discount kept getting wider.

Long-term investors, value investors, contrarian investors like me only bargain hunt when the prices are low, only speculators can provide liquidity & push up the prices.

Welcome back speculators!

8/8/12: NAV=RM3.01, Price=RM2.33, ICAP traded at 22.6% discount.
Discount narrows slightly but still undervalued.

I thought with Padini price dropping, its NAV would drop, however, I was wrong, its other component stocks must have saved the day, phew!

Pros and Cons of a Closed-Ended Fund, You can buy or you have to sell at discount to NAV.

This is only for investors whom believe in Value Investing and wiling to wait to harvest.

Icap at 2.30 is trading at a huge discount of about 25% of its NAV. Well most closed-end-funds in the US and around the world are traded at a discount to its NAV as this is a finance puzzle and an anomaly, but not to the tune of 25%. Why is icap traded at such a big discount? I can't think of any reason. The fund manager is not a "chekai" (hopeless) one. The management expense ratio is not higher than a normal open-end fund. I don't think there is any high tax or other liability, etc. I seriously think an ordinary investor (emphasizing "investor")should consider investing in icap, rather than simply buying shares based on rumours (even investment banks) or putting his hard-earned money in a normal unit trust which 80% of them under-perform the market. The discount should narrow in the near future as value tends to mean reverting, especially when there is interest from foreign funds.
