Seagate shares closed 12.4% higher at $97.97, while Western Digital gained 8.3%, to $71.87.

The surge in the two drive stocks Friday appears to have been triggered by a research note by Morgan Stanley analyst Joseph Moore. The model Chia uses to create new coins differs from that used for other cryptocurrencies, he said, arguing that it is likely to boost demand for disc drives significantly over the short term.

《希捷、WD 股价涨翻！大摩：奇亚币热潮支撑硬碟需求》

14 日，电脑硬碟制造商希捷（Seagate）和 Western Digital（WD）股价飙升，出现带量长红 K 棒，主要受惠近来爆红的奇亚币（Chia）需要大量硬碟挖矿，带动硬碟需求点火，导致相关产品供不应求。

Barron’s报导，新兴加密货币奇亚币涌现热潮，越来越多人前仆后继加入挖矿行列，使硬碟需求跃升数倍。摩根士丹利（Morgan Stanley）分析师Joseph Moore 14日发表报告提到，奇亚币使用矿工提供的硬碟空间来挖矿，不像其他加密货币是透过显示卡算力，因此将在短期内大幅提高硬碟需求。

Moore出具报告后，激励希捷和WD股价强势上涨。14日希捷股价劲扬12.44%，收97.97美元，创公司史上收盘新高；WD股价也大涨8.29%，收71.87美元。

Moore指出，大多数加密货币采用“工作量证明”（Proof of Work）机制验证交易，需要大量算力进行计算，因此耗电量十分惊人。相较之下，奇亚币的挖矿效率与硬碟容量呈正相关，取代工作量证明，优点是不会耗用大量能源，但需要巨大的硬碟储存空间来验证区块链。

据Moore表示，从中国掀起的奇亚币挖矿热潮，已对硬碟市场造成影响。数周前有报导称，市面10TB以上企业级硬碟出现严重缺货。Moore估计，奇亚币矿主购买的硬碟容量累计高达10EB。

4月22日，希捷发表2021会计年度第三季财报，获利击败市场预期，主要动能来自近线硬碟（Near-Line Drives）销售创新高纪录。展望第四季，希捷预测营收可达28.5亿美元，符合市场预期，每股盈余可达1.60美元，略高于市场预期的1.55美元。

希捷搭上了公用云服务运营商业绩强劲增长的顺风车。

硬盘驱动器还没有死，但如果您有相反的看法，那也是情有可原的。

曾几何时，每台笔记本电脑都配备了旋转式驱动器。如今情况已经发生了变化。硬盘驱动器几乎已从消费产品中消失了。

但新的企业应用程序正在推动硬盘的复兴，这对希捷科技(Seagate Technology，STX) $希捷科技(STX.US)$ 来说是个好消息，它是目前仅存的经营单一硬盘驱动业务的企业，希捷也将赌注押在了这里。

希捷从事驱动器开发已有四十多年了，投资者一直对其持怀疑态度。很多时候，希捷的业务都饱受争议，比如市场竞争激烈、容易商品化（编者注：失去独特性）、周期性极强和产品容易过时。这些担忧使希捷成为科技领域中最便宜的股票之一，现在依然如此。

繁荣与萧条的行业周期跌宕导致了无情的市场淘汰，驱动器制造商从高峰时的数百家，到现在仅保留了三家：希捷、西部数据(WDC)和东芝(6502:TYO)。

两家美国公司——希捷和西部数据占近90%的市场份额。但西部数据的业务已经开始多元化发展，2016年收购了闪存巨头闪迪公司(SanDisk)，这使希捷成为最后一家单一生产硬盘驱动器的制造商。

不断增长的大容量存储需求推动了市场对希捷大型驱动器的需求，受益于HAMR技术的突飞猛进，未来几年希捷的最大的驱动器存储空间将从如今的18TB增长到70TB。HAMR被称为热辅助磁记录技术，通过激光加热磁存储介质，从而更密集地存储数据。

同时，CEO莫斯利也看到了其他的新机遇。他以监控视频为例指出：“一些边缘数据并没有得到妥善利用，事实上在得到利用前，这些数据就被删除了，”莫斯利告诉《巴伦周刊》，“通过人工智能语言可以推论出边缘数据，于是边缘数据就消失了。未来，你可能想要保存边缘数据，并让越来越多的有能力进行计算和分析的机器对这些数据进行处理。”

摩根士丹利的分析师凯蒂·胡伯蒂(Katy Huberty)对希捷股票给予“增持”评级，其基本目标股价为每股98美元，牛市股价为每股119美元，较近期水平高出30%。（编者注：截至5月14日，希捷股价为每股98.9美元。）她预计希捷2022财年的利润将增长43%，至每股7.56美元，远高于华尔街普遍预期的每股6.69美元。该公司的会计年度在6月结束。

鉴于近期与加密货币Chia相关的挖矿服务器的需求激增，希捷甚至可能成为加密货币市场的玩家。Chia是一种新的加密货币，由比特流(BitTorrent)创始人布莱姆·科亨(Bram Cohen)发明。比特流是一种简化大型文件共享的通信协议。（编者注：比特流采用高效的软件分发系统和点对点技术共享大体积文件，如一部电影或电视节目，并使每个用户像网络重新分配结点那样提供上传服务。）

与依靠处理能力开采新货币不同，Chia依靠存储空间。开采加密货币通常使用的术语是“矿”(mine)，Chia采用的术语则是“农场”(farm)。

Northland Capital Markets的分析师古斯·理查德(Gus Richard)表示，Chia的“农民”（farmer，编者注：Chia的开采者）激发了大容量驱动器的零售销售激增，令一些亚洲市场的价格翻了一倍。如果这种情况继续下去，大容量驱动器的供应将趋紧，价格将进一步上涨。

希捷持续产出强劲的自由现金流，并制定了积极的股票回购计划，以实现3%的股息收益率。

在过去两个季度中花费17.5亿美元进行回购后，目前希捷的回购授权达44亿美元，占其市值的20%。CFO罗曼诺承认，其股票价格并不像过去那般便宜了，从2020年夏天起股价翻了一倍，但他仍然认为股价被低估了。

根据其长期盈利倍数，希捷的交易价格比纳斯达克综合指数低50%以上。同时，希捷销售额低于预期两倍，不及Global X Cloud Computing ETF(CLOU)中云股票平均销售额的七分之一。

在云业务中，希捷可能是世界上最便宜的赌注了。

this counter is heading to holland, lol...my c14 only left with 0.5 cent, i have prepared to lose everything in this CW so let it be, for those who are still holding the mother share, really need to be extra careful about the future of this company, nobody will dump a stock like that if it is a good investment...today klse looks ok a bit but jcy still flat/gg so once klse turns bad, it will follow again as it is a downtrend counter now.
