KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 10): MMC Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd said the joint venture will leave the issue of the termination of the Mass Rapid Transit Line 2 (MRT2) underground contract in "the Prime Minister's good hands".

In a statement today, MMC Gamuda said it welcomes the decision by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to review the cancellation of the MRT 2 underground Contract with the joint venture, which is a 50:50 joint venture between Gamuda Bhd and MMC Corp Bhd.

“MMC Gamuda therefore leaves the matter in the good hands of the Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir.

On the other hand, the joint venture company stressed that it remains committed to further discussion with MoF and to cooperate with MoF to reach an agreeable reduction of cost.

It hopes the Government would invite the company back to the negotiation table as part of the review process, said the statement. “MMC Gamuda remains committed to further discussion with MoF and to cooperate with MoF in reaching an agreeable reduction of cost.”

MMC Gamuda urged all stakeholders especially its staff, subcontractors and suppliers to remain calm, be patient and trust in the wisdom of the Prime Minister in his impending review process.

“We shall adopt an open book approach with the appointment of an international engineering consulting firm that possesses the necessary experience and track record in assessing tunnelling works around the world, and as such, be in the best position to re-examine where savings can be derived,” it said.

“Our request in return for the open-book approach is that our Intellectual Property (IP) rights and commercially sensitive information are duly respected as such, by the said reviewing consultant and all reviewing parties, during the review process. MMC Gamuda therefore leaves the matter in the good hands of Dr Mahathir,” it added.

Yesterday, Dr Mahathir was quoted by the local media saying that the Government is reviewing its decision to call for an international tender for MRT2 underground works.

The 93-year-old premier reportedly said this was because the termination would affect a workforce of 20,000 people. MoF would likely to let MMC Gamuda to continue if desired price is achievable.

“We are studying this carefully and reviewing this matter. It will be discussed,” he reportedly said after delivering the closing address at the Khazanah Megatrend Forum 2018.

finance ministry’s decision was based on the review of the project by a local engineering consulting firm appointed by the ministry....

Which local company which had such capability to access such tunneling project ? can share ?
This company said can reduce a lot of cost ? if they are wrong, how much tax payer need to pay for inaccurate data "local engineering consulting company ?

Gamuda said local company assumption is too simple...

“A significant part of the review findings were refuted by MMC-Gamuda on technical grounds as being too simplistic and arising from a lack of relevant experience,” it said.

Gamuda want ...

“We shall adopt an open book approach with the appointment of an international engineering consulting firm that possesses the necessary experience and track record in assessing tunnelling works around the world, and as such, be in the best position to re-examine where savings can be derived,” it said.

Tony take it trust the local engineering company, feel happy with such a billion ringgit savings they mentioned and happily share it to all... we can save a lot...

Later if there are holes sink here and there and flood in the MRT stations......
all the best to KL resident...

KL residents do prepare sink hole here and there and floods everywhere while waiting for cheap contract to be re tender.... this is not part of cost saving therefore not in the consideration for calculation by local engineering company...

Tony back ground... dont ask him about engineering... ask him about money & number, he is expert, that why 1 MDB exposure is so good... he is good in something but not all the thing...
he is good to be opposition but not as government, he need time to get use to it...

Education
Tony Pua left home when he was 13 to do his secondary schooling in Singapore on an ASEAN scholarship from the Singapore government. He attended Raffles Institution and Raffles Junior College. He then went on to Oxford University where he studied PPE at Keble College on a MTC scholarship.[4]

Early career
Pua worked for Andersen Consulting (now renamed Accenture) as a consultant after he graduated from Oxford. Two years later, in March 1997, he started Cyber Village when demand for e-business consultancy grew.

With his combined savings and those of his parents amounting to RM20,000 and another RM30,000 chipped in by three friends, he went ahead to open an office in Overseas Union Garden, Old Klang Road, KL with four staff.[5]

In August 2001, Cyber Village became the first Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC)-status company to list on the Singapore Dealing and Automated Quotation System (Sesdaq). Its public offer of 400,000 shares drew an over-subscription of approximately 2.7 times.[6] In January 2009, Cyber Village had successfully undergone a management buyout under the Koyo Group.[7]

Actually their case is very typical case happening most of the time in the industry . Owner engaged questionable checker to check their works . When the non competent assumptions were made known , of course the more experienced party will be at disagreement. The worst part is, when the so called professional 3rd party by right to present in details their judgement, they couldn’t but asked to one being audited to reveal their technical know how to teach the cari makan consultant back . Of course the one being audited will refuse la.

They are leader locally , who else qualify to audit them technically unless the same professional organization completed the same numbers & size of similar nature projects before .

KUALA LUMPUR: MMC Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd, the contractor for the underground portion of the Mass Rapid Transit 2 (MRT2) project, has pledged to adopt an “open book approach” if fresh negotiations can be held.

The company, in a statement, said it hoped to be invited back to the negotiating table with the government after Dr Mahathir on Tuesday said he would reconsider the Cabinet’s decision to terminate the underground contract.

“It is our express hope that the government would invite us back to the negotiating table as part of that review process, and we shall adopt an open-book approach with the appointment of an international engineering consulting firm that possesses the necessary experience and track record in assessing tunnelling works around the world, and as such, be in the best position to re-examine where savings can be derived,” MMC-Gamuda said.

On Sunday (Oct 7), Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the Cabinet had decided to terminate the MMC-Gamuda contract to build the underground portion of the MRT2 project, adding that all unfinished underground work will be re-tendered via an open tender process.

But Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, on Tuesday, said the government will reconsider the decision.

“We urge all stakeholders, especially our staff, subcontractors and suppliers, to remain calm, be patient and trust in the wisdom of our Prime Minister in his impending review process,” MMC-Gamuda said,

“Our request in return for the open-book approach is that our intellectual property rights and commercially sensitive information are duly respected as such, by the said reviewing consultant and all reviewing parties, during the review process.”

Below is the statement by MMC Gamuda in full

MMC Gamuda welcomes the decision by the Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, to review the cancellation of the MRT 2 Underground Contract with MMC Gamuda.

MMC Gamuda remains committed to further discussion with MOF and to cooperate with MOF in reaching an agreeable reduction of cost.

The recent outpouring by MMC Gamuda staff over the last 48 hours is sincere and directly from their hearts. Given the recent announcement of termination of the MRT 2 Underground Contract, we understand their reactions and are indeed empathetic of their situation.

Nonetheless, we urge all stakeholders especially our staff, subcontractors and suppliers to remain calm, be patient and trust in the wisdom of our Prime Minister in his impending review process.

It is our express hope that the Government would invite us back to the negotiating table as part of that review process, and we shall adopt an open book approach with the appointment of an international engineering consulting firm that possesses the necessary experience and track record in assessing tunnelling works around the world, and as such, be in the best position to re-examine where

savings can be derived.

Our request in return for the open-book approach is that our Intellectual Property (IP) rights and commercially sensitive information are duly respected as such, by the said reviewing consultant and all reviewing parties, during the review process.

MMC Gamuda therefore leaves the matter in the good hands of the Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir.
