The Ghost Month 2022 is from July 29 to August 26, 2022 to be precise.

It is believed on the first day of the month, the gates of hell open up and ghosts are free to feed and enjoy themselves for one month. On the last day of the month, the gates of Hell close up again thus spirits come back to their spiritual realm.

Why is it called Hungry Ghost?
To cut long story short from long time ago … this is the history about Hungry Ghost Festival.

Hungry ghost is a concept in Chinese Buddhism, Chinese traditional religion, Japanese Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism, representing beings who are driven by intense emotional needs in an animalistic way. The terms 餓鬼 èguǐ literally "hungry ghost", are the Chinese translation of the term preta in Buddhism.

What is Ghost Month in Chinese?
To tell you the truth, this is why Ghost Month is strictly observed in Chinese community lah.
