America built itself on capitalism. Why would u.s realistically expect the government to step in and save its own citizens? Based on capitalism, u.s all need to have their own contingency plans. Maybe this shows it’s time for a new model?
It was time for a new model when U.S current president continues to thumb his nose at the Rule of Law and the advice of scientists while U.S brave soldiers die at the hands of Russia paid bounty hunters and their citizens die of a pandemic.
I cannot believe all what I see in the US: during World War I about 200,000 brave Americans died. During WWII about 400,000. NOW WITH COVID already >130,000 rising ... and politicians don’t unite or kill the spread. They will lose this war if they don’t react immediately
Cases were identified in Germany a few weeks after they developed one of the first viable COVID-19 tests in early January. Merkel got the 16 state governors (some of opposition parties) together quickly. Tracing, lockdown, physical distancing & masks. Leadership.
Companies have CEOs, armies have generals. Someone needs to direct and coordinate the action - that’s the strength of society and organization. Otherwise it’s just chaos.
All made possible by an archaic, dysfunctional, undemocratic US political/electoral system badly corrupted by foreign/domestic subversion, non-stop disinformation & disinterested non-voters.
Well said, man. But those career politicians are smart enough not to do it. The bigger the Government Pie, the more opportunities to self-profiteering. So...dream on, man.
For decades u.s research has been underfunded, healthcare systems monetized and safety nets destroyed. Public Health systems have been ignored and underfunded All beginning with the Reagan era Starve The Beast. The GOP is at the root and must pay.
Yes, a smart State, regardless of big or small, must have sense of urgency and priority. Else, more people will suffer or even die unnecessarily. How pitiful !
I’ll politely disagree. Some of U.S elected officials are stupid, unfortunately. Too hot-headed and egotistical to listen to anyone. As a whole I feel like U.S is a country with leadership with ideas and values that don’t listen to the people who are screaming “listen to your citizens!”
As he stated: Americans accepted extensive lock-downs far more readily than many predicted. But this period of suffering was meant to buy time for the government to set-up systems of testing tracing and isolation.
Tracing and isolation isn’t going to happen by force. Does he think that Americans will allow the government to track them (more than they do) and isolate them? All while they’re evicted or have their kids starve?
Fast-to-reopen states put more people back to work. But they experienced several setbacks: fewer customers returned, revenues were lower, and fears about businesses being forced to re-close were elevated. See more in July's Road to Recovery Report.
