DATASONIC GROUP BERHAD (“DATASONIC” OR “THE COMPANY”) CLARIFICATION ON THE NEWS ARTICLES ENTITLED: “OFFSHORE COMPANY FIRST TO BE CHARGED UNDER MACC’S NEW LAW” The Company refer to the news article entitled “Offshore Company first to be charged under MACC’s new law” which appeared on TheEdgeMarkets.com on Thursday, 18 March 2021. The Board of Directors (“Board”) of Datasonic wishes to announce that our Deputy Managing Director, Mr Chew Ben Ben, who is a former Director of Pristine Offshore Sdn Bhd, where he holds 49% interest in this private investment company, which is a separate legal entity of Datasonic, is being charged by the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (“MACC”) under Section 16(b)(A) of the MACC Act, 2009 for allegedly paid a bribe of RM321,350 between 29 June 2020 to 14 October 2020 in relation to a sub-contract for ship chartering for oil mining work. Mr Chew has pleaded not guilty to the charge and is already on bail and back to work in office now to assume his duties and responsibilities as Deputy Managing Director of Datasonic. The trial shall take a long process until all legal processes have been completed with a final decision from the court. The Board wishes to state that:- 1. Datasonic and its subsidiaries (“Datasonic Group”) are not involved in the said subcontracting whatsoever, either directly or indirectly. Neither the Company has benefited in whatever form from the said workboat chartering accommodation business. 2. The abovementioned charge is strictly related to Mr Chew’s private investment company, in workboat chartering accommodation business which is not related to any of Datasonic’s businesses. 3. It is business as usual at Datasonic Group. The business operations are not affected and are running as usual in Datasonic Group. The Company will make the necessary announcements to Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad as and when there are further developments in relation thereof. This announcement is dated 18 March 2021.
