Rakuten's Yee targets the benchmark FBM KLCI to hit 1.630 points this year, implying a PE multiple of 15.5 times with money moving into the banking and telco stocks.
PETALING JAYA: Emerging markets (EMs) like Malaysia should attract foreign funds looking for growth and value as well as currency gains in 2023.
Rakuten Trade’s head of research Kenny Yee said foreign shareholding of local equities has fallen to 12.6% now because foreign investors have been focused on domestic markets since the Covid-19 pandemic’s outbreak three years ago.
This has led Bursa Malaysia to trade at about 13.6 times price earnings (PE) multiple in 2023 instead of the 17 times PE average historically but he thinks this will change in the near future.
“Investors are generally risk averse now and amidst the volatility, we think funds will rebalance portfolios especially bank holdings in mature markets and look for growth in regional EMs like Malaysia due to low currency and market valuation,” he said in an online media briefing yesterday.
Yee thinks foreign funds can gain from a stronger ringgit which he thinks is ripe to hit RM4.10 and RM4.20 against the greenback later this year from the current RM4.50 level.
With the inflow of funds from abroad, Yee targets the benchmark FBM KLCI to hit 1.630 points this year, implying a PE multiple of 15.5 times :)

The major companies are promoting the health benefits of animal proteins in countries, like India to increase the growth of the market. What is the domestic demand for broiler meat? The domestic demand for broiler meat is one of the highest in the Malaysian markets. The industry requires continuous evaluation to identify the existing problems and improves its competitive advantage. Thus, economic analysis of this sort will continue to update current statistics on production cost, output and profitability. Following this, the study, therefore, aims to assess the existing financial condition of farmers, marginal cost of production, total net income and input-output ratio of broiler production in different regions in Peninsular Malaysia. The study used multi-stage sampling in selecting 310 operators from Southern, Northern, East Coast and Centeral regions. The analytical tools include descriptive statistics and farm budget. The findings disclosed that the broiler farm incurs major cost from acquiring operating inputs especially feed. The operations in the East Coast region was almost unprofitable for the reason that feed conversion rate is more than 2 resulting in higher production cost. But the other three regions indicate positive returns based on the estimated input-output ratios of 1:1.09, 1:1.17 and 1: 1.23 for Northern, Southern and Central regions, respectively. The study advocates for both managerial and policy measures that will help cut the cost of production to attract more investors and increase export. KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia's key index is expected to trend between the 1,400-1,415 range with some broad-based accumulation at prevailing levels today.
This would be in line with a more positive Wall Street closing overnight, Rakuten Trade said.
Proceeeds from the IPO (initial public listing) will fund our regional expansion, capital-intensive R&D and acquisitions of other players in the livestock business,” Francis, also executive director of Leong Hup International...............
Singapore-based private equity firm Affinity Equity Partners reportedly took a stake of 23% in Leong Hup International, valuing the latter at US$600mil (RM2.2bil then), excluding debt.
Against the privatised cost of RM700mil in 2012, the amount paid for by Affinity was seen as indicative of the fast growth that Leong Hup had undergone from 2012 to 2015.
In 1990, Leong Hup Holdings Bhd was the first livestock company to be listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchnage. It was privatised in 2012 along with its listed feedmiller Emivest Bhd.
But Leong Hup International still controls two listed companies in Asean -- Indonesia’s PT Malindo, an integrated poultry player, and local egg producer Teo Seng Capital Bhd
