This is my blog

Dear Hengyuan Shareholders,

We make it, this afternoon I received whatsApp message from Mr. Surya:

Hi Mr. Lee…

Kindly be updated that the number of Notices received has been verified at minimum 50 as required.

Thank you.

I reply: Can I break this good news at my i3 investor blog?

Surya reply: Sure.

We have make history. We have done what no others have done before that is getting not less than 50 minority shareholders to send in Notices of Requisition to move and vote on our resolutions. Please give ourselves a pat on the back for achieving such feat. I am thankful and appreciate very much the trust and support you have given to me. I will get ready the questions when the audited financial year end 2017 report is available. Thank you

This week no pantun or poem, GE14 is upon us the voting date is on 9th May 2018. Will we make history? That’s a million dollar question.

I had posted my honest and sincere opinion in i3 investor blog urging all to vote for PH and today I would like to share with you a Politician that I admire and respect the most; the late Karpal Singh “In Memory of Karpal Singh, written on 20/04/2014"

With sadness I follow the Star report footage on Karpal Singh’s final journey where thousands of people lined the streets of Penang to pay their respect and bid farewell to this most illustrious Politician and Advocate. (Bukit Gelugor MP and veteran DAP leader Karpal Singh 74, and his long-time aide Michael Cornelius, 39, was killed when the car they were travelling in collided with a five-ton lorry near Gua Tempurung on the North South Expressway here early Thursday. He was on his way to Penang to attend a court case later in the day). Many had pay tribute to Karpal Sigh deeds and I would like to quote the following:

  • From present and former Prime Minister:
  • Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak:
  • Karpal was an implacable leader, while in law, he was a committed advocate. He is a formidable opponent in both politic and law.
  •
  • Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi:
  • My heart grieves with the passing of Karpal Singh. An icon and legend of our time has gone. We are poorer for the loss of a great legal mind, and a crusader for justice and human rights. His legacy will live on and will inspire many others in time to come.
  •
  • Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad:
  • Despite professing a differing political ideology, Karpal contributed much to the nation. Karpal was critical of the Government when he perceived that things were not right. Some of his criticisms might not be correct but some had basis. We need people from the opposition who talk sense.
  •
  • From his political colleague, alliance and opponent:
  • DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang:
  • Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or region, the majority of whom had never met or known Karpal Singh, are in shock and mourning the sudden passing of the Tiger of Jelutong as a personal loss. This is a testament of how the indomitable fight and struggle of Karpal for justice, the rule of law and democracy for over four decades have touched the lives of Malaysians, across race, religion, region, gender or age. With the passing of Karpal Singh, a light has gone out in Malaysia. But the best tribute to the memory of Karpal is the mushrooming of more lights to brighten the Malaysian national landscape of justice, the rule of law and democracy.
  •
  • PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang Hadi:
  • He was courageous and highly spirited in any matter he fought for.  He was a father, a friend, a veteran politician and a lawyer who never stopped fighting for justice and the rule of law.
  •
  • PAS Spiritual leader Nik Aziz:
  • I felt sad as I do not have the opportunity to explain in detail to Karpal the laws pertaining to hudud. I know Karpal as someone who strongly holds to the principles of the Federal Constitution and I believe, he will be known for that in the history of Malaysian politics.
  •
  • Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim:
  • Indeed, words cannot express enough my profound sadness at the passing away of my brother-in-arms for freedom and democracy, an inspiring symbol for the struggle against oppression and injustice and a man of unimpeachable moral integrity. He gave his honors to the world again. His blessed part to heaven, and… henceforth, will now sleep in peace.
  •
  • Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng:
  • Karpal represented a simple virtue of justice, for democracy, integrity, honesty and decency. Karpal was loved by the people. He was willing to fight the impossible for the voiceless, the defenseless and the poor. He can still contribute so much more and definitely (he left) before his time.
  •
  • Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim:
  • The country had lost a good man who upheld the law to achieve justice and fairness for all in the country.
  •
  • Former MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu:
  • Karpal is a people-centric person and perfectionist. He was 74 but he worked like a young man, day and night, all with the people’s interests and betterment in mind. He was a man of action and trustworthy.
  •
  • Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup:
  • Karpal Singh not only inspired many but managed to stir something in many of us through his conviction for the rule of law. "His last few words in the August House...'Jangan main-main dengan Perlembagaan (do not play with the Constitution)'...still echoes in my ears.
  •
  • Sarawak Land Development Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing:
  • We may not be on the same side of the divide but I admire his unwavering stand on certain political issues which he believed in. He dared to be different even with his party’s stand if it was against his beliefs and principles.
  •
  • From those who known him:
  • St Xavier’s Institution board of governors chairman Dr Francis Loh Kok Wah:
  • He imbibed many La Salle values, not least our special concern for ‘the last, the lost and the least. May our students and all young Malaysians learn from Karpal’s love, service and dedication to his nation, Malaysia, and to people of all faiths and races.
  •
  • Sarala Poobalan:
  • Karpal Singh was a true Malaysian who loved his country more than himself.
  • He was true to his calling. He defended the law, the constitution and the less fortunate against the evil, corrupted and greedy people who are unworthy of being called leaders or politicians.
  •
  • Donoghue:
  • He was gentle, witty and full of grace and kindness. He had a great sense of humor and didn’t take himself too seriously. He was also a huge catalyst for change in the political and legal landscape of Malaysia. Karpal never uttered words for the sake of it, and always meant what he said.
  •
  • Malaysia Bar Council President Christopher Leong:
  • He is a towering Malaysian and a great courageous man. He was that special and rare breed of man who commanded respect for his leadership and courage in the values and causes he stood and fought for. Malaysia needed Karpal and continues to need more people like him.
  •
  • Former Malaysian Bar Council President Lim Chee Wee:
  • As a lawyer, Karpal was polite, courteous, persuasive and clear in his submissions. He was well prepared, fearless and ethical. As a politician, the Bukit Gelugor MP was firm in his principles.
  •
  • Former Malaysian Bar Council Chairman Datuk Param Cumaraswamy:
  • Karpal’s death was a great loss to the nation. He was so much entrenched into the finer qualities of the Bar to the point that senior judges before whom he appeared used to commend highly about his conduct, it would be difficult to find a replacement for the late Bukit Gelugor MP.
  •
  • Former Solicitor-General II Datuk Yusof Zainal Abiden:
  • Although I had heated arguments with Karpal in court, we were cordial outside, knowing what was said was work and nothing personal. He had a hard exterior but a soft interior and was a very kind person.
  •
  • Criminal lawyer Amer Hamzah Arshad:
  • We, members of the Malaysian Bar, will continue the good fight for justice which you had fought for during your lifetime. Rest well, Mr. Karpal Singh, the Tiger of Jelutong.
  •
  • Dr K.H. SNG:
  • He will always be remembered as a true politician, who spoke from his heart and with guts and tenacity. May his passing on be not in vain. May his example in integrity and courage to speak up for the nation be the “seeds” that will raise many more Malaysians to do the same, for the love of our beloved country?
  •
  • Retired judge Datuk K.C. Vohrah:
  • He made Malaysians aware of unvarnished truths, however unpalatable they were. He spoke loudly on the social ills of the country affecting all communities irrespective of race, religion, gender or creed. He spoke of the problems in the criminal justice system and the legal system and of serious issues of constitutional, administrative and criminal law that need to be addressed, especially in relation to fundamental liberties. He was principled and ethical. He fought his cases tooth and nail in court but he was courteous - quite unlike what one would read of him when he was in Parliament or as a politician. But to be sure, he did not take bullying from overbearing judges. He lost some and he won some, but in all, he was always gracious in court before all judges – even when he lost his cases.
  •
  • From Residents of Jelutong:
  • Chee Kok Hwa:
  • I had a headache when I heard the news of his passing. He was a brave politician who feared nothing, not even those in higher authority.
  •
  • Abdul Rahim Y. Mohideen Pichai:
  • I feel bad. I will miss him very much. But what to do? This is his fate, no matter what, people of Jelutong knew that Karpal had helped them through all the years he was MP there and had served them well. He was not called the Tiger of Jelutong for nothing.
  •
  • Betty Soo:
  • Those of us whose home is in Jelutong truly remember how Karpal fought for us, sacrificing his own personal and family time to be a voice for the nation.
  •
  • Cheah:
  • Karpal’s spirit was laudable as he had insisted on travelling back to Penang at midnight to prepare for a court case the next morning. He put the interest of the people that he fought for above his own interests.
  •
  • From son Gobind Singh:
  • My father was a simple man, who enjoyed simple things. He was the most loving father. He was extremely patient with us. Having him around meant a lot of fun. He was strictly principled but never once was he a disciplinarian. Instead he was always encouraging and never made us feel like studies were the only thing in life.
  •
  • From Karpal Singh himself:
  • You see that’s why they say he may be a good lawyer but he’s a lousy politician. That has been a charge against me. But I think one should know that you can’t sacrifice principles for political expediency. That’s the stand I have taken and I won’t shift from that. They say in politics there are no permanent enemies or permanent friends, but I say there must be permanent principles. I must be able to look at myself in the mirror when I get up in the morning. You can’t twist and turn. That’s something that I have not been able to do and I have been criticised for it.

That pretty well sum up who Karpal Singh is. I never met or known Karpal Singh personally, the most I can recalled was seeing a Singh paste a Rocket DAP party symbol in the lamp post in front of our Alor Setar house during the 1974 general election when I was still a thirteen year old boy. Again all odd Karpal was elected to Alor Setar state assembly and what follow is a legend is born.

Thank you.
