KUALA LUMPUR: Vitrox Corp Bhd , a maker of test equipment for the semiconductor industry, says strong demand for automated board inspection (ABI) machines boosted its earnings in the first quarter ended March 31.
Net profit rose 9% to RM20.26mil, on the back of a 11% jump in revenue to RM77.3mil.
"Revenue from ABI has recorded an increase of 19% against the corresponding quarter of preceding year," it said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today.
"The increase was mainly due to higher demand from widen customer base and positive acceptance of our products," it said.
Despite the challenges in the global semiconductor industry, Vitrox is "optimistic" about its prospect for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2018.
"The group will continue to focus on market expansion activities, customer relationship building and product innovation to grow our business further in the new financial year," it said.
"Besides that, the group has taken steps to minimise its net monetary assets in order to mitigate the financial impacts arising from currency fluctuation," it added.

You should know that wafer acts like buffer.
When semiconductor demand increases, wafer shortage may prevent Kesm's net profit from increasing rapidly.
When semiconductor demand decreases, wafer utilisation rate will increase, so it may prevent Kesm's profit from decreasing rapidly.
That's why it is unlikely that Kesm's net profit will decrease rapidly.,,
