Facebook has announced that more information is being added to the existing tools designed to inform users which data about them the company collects, stores and uses.

To be more transparent with users about how their data is collected and used, Facebook is adding more information to their existing self-service tools that were designed to give people a clearer vision of how recorded data helps the platform give users more personalised experiences.

The Download Your Information tool on Facebook and Download Your Data tool on Instagram will now include information about a user's interactions on each platform: which pages they follow, which posts they like and what information they add to their profiles, for example.

Additionally, Download Your Information will now include "more inferences about the content you interact with on our services, which we use to recommend what you see in Facebook's News Feed, news tab and Watch sections”. Such data allows Facebook to present users with content more relevant to their interests.

Within Instagram's Download Your Data file, the categories that have been attached to some accounts will be viewable; these are used to present users with content they're likely to be interested in within the Explore tab. As inference-type data is used by companies across the industry, Facebook has also begun sharing educational content about this data to help users understand it.

This information and data can now be found within the Download Your Information and Download Your Data self-service tools on Facebook and Instagram.
