Biden invites 40 world leaders, including Singapore's PM Lee, to virtual climate summit on April 22
WASHINGTON : US President Joe Biden has invited 40 world leaders including Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, China's President Xi Jinping and Russia's President Vladimir Putin to a virtual climate summit he is hosting in April, the White House announced on Friday (March 26).
The world leaders have been asked to attend the two-day meeting meant to mark Washington's return to the front lines of the fight against man-made climate change, after former president Donald Trump disengaged from the process.
"They know they're invited," Biden said of Xi and Putin. "But I haven't spoken to either one of them yet."
The start of the summit on April 22 coincides with Earth Day, and will come ahead of a major UN meeting on climate change scheduled for November in Glasgow, Scotland.
It is being staged entirely online due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Biden kept his campaign pledge to rejoin the Paris climate agreement on his first day in the White House, after Trump pulled out of the deal.
The return of the world's largest economy and second-largest emitter of carbon dioxide became effective on February 19, and means almost all the world's nations are now parties to the agreement signed in 2015.

Just look at the wording "have been asked to attend" is equivalent to " have been instructed to attend". Who is this Sleeping Joe to give instruction to President Xi and Putin? He must be a drunken to consider using such wording when dealing with other world leaders.

Why President Xi and Putin should not attend this virtual 'summit'?
1. This meeting is not sanctioned by a legitimate body UN recognized.
2. Sleeping Zoe is just the POTUS, president of just another country.
3. President Xi and Putin were not invited personally. So need not respond at all.
4. US already left Paris Climate Accord in writing. Climate change does not concern US any more. US can go and fly kite now.
5. By NOT attending the 'summit' called by Sleeping Joe, China and Russia need not recognize the 'Outcome' and 'Oblige' or 'Binding' to what US lay down.
