TUNIS, Aug. 16 -- Tunisia has tightened health surveillance at its borders in response to the World Health Organization's declaration of a global mpox emergency, the health ministry said on Thursday.

No cases of the virus, formerly known as monkeypox, have been detected in the North African country, the ministry added.

"The situation is under constant monitoring," it said in a statement.

Mpox is transmitted through body fluids, respiratory droplets, and contaminated materials. Symptoms include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes.
